Changes Coming to Age of Conan

conan.jpg

While I am on my quest to become a level 70 Warlock in World of Warcraft, some of you may have moved on to Age of Conan. So for those of you who prefer Stygians over Blood Elves, Craig Morrison, Game Director for AoC has posted a letter on the game's forum highlighting some changes that will be taking place in the next few months. First the bad-depending-on-how-your-definition-of-bad news, merging servers:

Another aspect which has popped up in the forums recently is whether we are going to do a server merge or not, and I can today confirm that we are actively working on an approach to merge servers, both in Europe and North America. It's important for us to ensure the best gameplay experience for you all, and more healthy populations on each and every server will make sure we maintain healthy communities for the game in the future. Still, there are many complexities involved in this, and we want to ensure that everything happens as fair and streamlined as possible

More after the jump

This same thing happened a few months ago with Pirates of the Burning Sea, and really reactions can go either way. This is a sign of low population in the game, but rather than have several near empty servers, consolidated servers means high population density which means more PVP fun. Speaking of PVP:

Then there is the second stage of the PVP update that brings with it the consequence system. This new system allows for players PVP actions to have real consequences in the world, and it will greatly enhance the entire PvP experience in Conan. As you know the system is meant to bring repercussions for repeated evil behaviour (i.e. killing players outside of your level range), so should you chose to "gank" other players, a whole new gameplay area opens up! For one, it will result in you no longer being welcome in many parts of the game-world, but in its place you will have to rely on a newly arrived network of camps and areas that function with a little more moral ambiguity. This is very true to the essence of the Conan lore, and a change I think many players will find intriguing.

I am deathly afraid of PVP, which is why I never got into a game like Conan. I just feel like no matter what I'm going to get slaughtered by an eight year old who spends 25 hours a day leveling his character and looting the best equipment from monsters I can't even scratch. Maybe I can use this fear though, because the Conan PVP does sound like tons of awesome.

You can check out the full letter at the link below, and let me know if you've been playing Age of Conan, and what aspects of it you find most enjoyable.

Hmmm. Part of me likes the idea of new areas opening up based on specific PvP behaviors, but the other part of me doesn't like how this will encourage players to "gank" more often just to experience these new areas.

Also, PvP isn't scary at all. It can be dreadfully boring and frustrating though.

This game was mishandled the worst of any MMO in a long long time. They basically abandoned some classes completely and just didn't respond to how the players were reacting to being ignored.

Their mount system is unbelievably bad and nothing was done about it and casters were god mode in PVP due to having no combos to preform.

People stopped playing because of poor handling and this will just be another FF11 with maybe 100,000 people playing it World-Wide by next year at best.

And to have to bring in PVP updates so soon on a game that was selling on PVP just screams that it wasn't ready in the first place.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
