MC5, Motorhead and Sex Pistols Head Back Into The Studio For Activision

Well, as expected, the announcements keep coming. Activision has now declared that some classic bands have headed back into the studio to re-record tracks for the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour. Nearly 40 years after the original "Kick Out The Jams" was recorded, MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer stepped back into the booth to bring the punk rock classic to a new generation. Featuring the original vocal track, Kramer was joined by Jerry Cantrell of Alice and Chains and Gilby Clark of Guns'N'Roses to update and modernize the song. Yeah. Not sure how I feel about that. It's like the covers that sometimes sound okay, but other times are an abomination. Although I have to say, the re-recorded tracks from Devo in the recent Rock Band DLC sounded pretty good.
In addition, when The Sex Pistols re-recorded "Anarchy in the U.K." for Guitar Hero, they also re-did "Pretty Vacant." And in an interesting bit of trivia (to me, at least), they used the original analog sound board from the late sixties to achieve the same sound. Oh, and as I promised in that headline up there, Motorhead also re-recorded a song, "Overkill."
"We set out to deliver a soundtrack for Guitar Hero that envelopes as many genres, styles and artists as possible without limiting scope," said Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Activision Blizzard. "When highly respected artists such as MC5's Wayne Kramer, Motorhead and The Sex Pistols are willing to go back into the recording studio to re-record their music exclusively for the game, the fans win by getting a unique experience of old yet new legendary sounds."
I have to say that Activision hasn't been shy about showing off some of the exclusive content they've secured as they near Guitar Hero World Tour's October release date. So come on, Harmonix start plugging Rock Band 2! I wanna know what I'm getting!

Am I the only one who heard the re-recorded Pretty Vacant on the "Guitar Queero" episode of South Park? I got all excited when I heard it (being a huge Sex Pistols fan/punk), expecting DLC any day.
