RE5 To Get "Gears-Like" Controls - Beefy Man-Hulks Not Included

With its tension-based horror style that originated in RE4, I can't wait for Resident Evil 5. But announcements keep coming that make me more and more worried about one of my most anticipated games. At a recent Microsoft Media Briefing RE5 Producer Jun Takeuchi let slip that that the controls for RE5 would be undergoing a bit of a shift from the RE4-style controls shown in previous builds.
"So don't be surprised if at the Tokyo Game Show, the controls are different... I'm not confirming or denying anything, but we like to surprise people."
When questioned after the Media Briefing, Takeuchi referred to the new control scheme as "Gears-like."
This could go either very well, or very poorly. I'll be the first to say it, I'm not a fan of Gears of War, so obviously the news that one of my most anticipated games is borrowing from it comes as a downer. And if Capcom is going to be borrowing from Gears of War, at least take the parts I did like, like the burly man-candy. But at the same time, a good cover system, or at least a means of hiding, could be a welcome addition to the survival-horror genre, so I'll reserve judgment until the Tokyo Game Show where the new control scheme will be revealed. At least I'm more optimistic about this addition than the co-op feature, which I still say severely brings down the tension and sense of isolation that these horror games feed off of so well.

Gears didn't invent anything control-wise. It just used the standard FPS controls. However, introducing sidestepping and the ability to aim and shoot while moving could drastically change the RE experience to become an all-out action game instead of using the more deliberate, strategic movement of all the previous games. I just hope the change doesn't make it feel like every other game out there.
Meh. They should've kept the RE series as it was. There was nothing wrong with it.
If they wanted to try a diferent control system why not just make a new property? Maybe because if it fails you've still got the name to fall back on.
But since I didn't like the first change, I don't see a further development as being such a big deal.
But really, this is what comes naturally out of what they did with RE4. The whole game went from pure survival horror to a SH/FPS hybrid. So them going even further to FPS is a logical evolution.
