Shuffle Play: WipeOut HD

From the beginning of the series, one thing that WipeOut has been known for is its soundtrack. Even if the first game was a little too much of a stickler about touching the edges of the track, the soundtrack provided by CoLD SToRAGE backed up the futuristic visuals crafted by The Designers Republic to create a sense of atmosphere that games still try to achieve today. Through out future releases, the series would set the example of what would become industry standard on similar games years down the road and license works from some of the biggest names in the electronic music scene, including Aphex Twin, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Kraftwerk, Underworld, Dj Sasha, Orbital, Timo Mass, BT, Future Sound of London, Dj Tiesto, Royksopp, and the Propellerheads just to name a few. It's sounds strange, but back in those days it was almost unheard of to hear music you would even like in a game, let alone discover new music artists through it.
With this spirit of atmosphere and discovery in mind, let me present to you Gay Gamer's first Shuffle Play, an official unofficial soundtrack for WipeOut HD. Come take a look at what the Gay Gamer staff suggests that you having pumping through your stereo while blazing through the twists and turns of this frantic racer.

I'm sure there aren't too many people out there looking forward to my all disco-soundtrack picks (which is available upon request, just sayin'...) so I got a little help from some of my Castle-mates. I'm proud to say that they gave us some very unique opinions that are sure to make for some memorable racing. So without further ado, let's put it in gear and take off!
Suggestions from our fearless leader, Fruit Brute, include a little something for everybody and a song that I was going to put in my suggestions.
Don't Stop Me Now by Queen: Because I always wanted to drive in a car with Freddy Mercury. When I had a car I would listen to this cranked all the way up with the windows open. Unfortunately, no one else thought it was as cool as I did. Especially my neighbors.Magic Carpet Ride (Fatboy Slim Remix): Something about this song I just always liked. I used to play it a lot when I was a DJ back in the day. It's also on my Super Stardust HD set list.
Fell In Love With A Girl by The White Stripes: Short and sweet, this song has a great fast paced feeling. Plus it has that hilarious internet video with the guitar playing cats!
Barracuda by Heart: You can't go wrong with Heart. I mean come on, it's BARRACUDA... need I say more?
Skin Receiver by Auf Der Maur: The former Smashing Pumpkins and Hole Bassist came out with her own album a few years back. This song is a favorite and has a terrific driving rhythm. It sounds great as a follow up to Barracuda, plus... CHICK ROCK!
Asterick took some time away from drooling over the game's stunning visuals to share some electronic goodness and one very odd tribute to a sketch comedy classic.
High Rise by Ladytron: Good race song, and the name fits.Electronic Wolves by Beep Beep: See above.
Disposable Parts by Enon: Because, hey, isn't that what your opponents are made of?
Love Your Shotgun by Be Your Own Pet: This song just makes me want to blow up things.
Ladyfingers by Fever: I just think this song would rock to race to.
Yackety Sax by Boots Randolf: This song is the only way that this game could possibly be considered funny
Wootini shares some personal insight into his picks. His reasoning for bring "the Spice" is enough to convince me that his other offbeat choices would make for some good driving music.
"Main Title" by Danny Elfman from the Beetlejuice Soundtrack: I used to love driving to this soundtrack in high school... crazy panicky fast tunesAce of Spades by Motorhead: Just because it's awesome speed metal.
Spice Up Your Life by The Spice Girls: So you can recreate the video where they fly around a dystopian future city.
Go Speed Racer, Go by Sponge: For obvious reasons, but make it the cover from the Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits album.
Roam by The B-52s: Even if you're stuck on one track and can't roam around the world...
Everyday is Saturday with Dawdle's playlist.
Make Out Club by Unrest: It's basically a song about wanting to make out with someone all day. It doesn't have much to do with racing but it's a nice thought in general.Melody Day by Caribou: Swirly and psychedelic and sometimes it makes me taste colors.
Fists Up by The Blow: It compares falling in love with trying to create a utopian society. Both sound nice in theory, but end up being a lot harder in practice.
Beg Waves by Ponytail: A wall of guitars with a woman wailing like a cat in heat sounds like the future to me.
The Doctor prescribes the following jams to be taken twice a day with food.
Every Time We Touch by Cascada: I totally liked the song before it hit the club scene.Bite Your Tongue by Duncan Sheik: I could make hundreds of playlists
with Duncan Sheik songs.Longer by Caleb Kane: This guy was the singing voice of Aladdin, and
boy is he talentedDrive Away by The All-American Rejects: A nice fast paced song to sing along to while I'm in last place.
Gotta Find You by Joe Jonas from the Camp Rock Soundtrack: ... I have no comment.
Before he would pass his list of picks to me, Tiny Dancer made me promise that we would not make fun of him for his "chick rock thing." I'm not sure why he was so timid though. The images he conjures up with some of these songs are to die for!
Narcissus by Alanis Morissette: Because yelling at your ex feels better above 120mph. Science FACT.Glory of the 80s by Tori Amos: The song's about the 80s looking back from the 00s, and I hope in the far-flung racing future there's a badass redhead driving a Maserati that's been finger-painted with menstrual blood. TMI?
Rocket Boy by Liz Phair: This song is dirty and pretty and it feels good when you're moving fast. Or driving.
Get Back by Ike & Tina Turner (covering The Beatles): When Tina puts you in your place, you stay there; in this case she's yelling at the other drivers. Spin the wheel, Raggedyman!
Then we have some of my choices...
Hell on Wheels by Cher: In this song Cher claims that she can "slide down places that you never knew," which is a talent that would actually come in handy in this game. Sidenote, the unforgettably gay video must be seen to be believed!Into The Nightlife by Cyndi Lauper: It's light, bouncy, fun and... it's Cyndi flippin' Lauper!
La Rock 01 by Vitalic: This sounds like how a futuristic hover-car engine should sound like in 12th gear.
Winona by Totally Michael: This ode to Ms. Rider is just too catchy to pass up.Don't Do Electric Avenue by Eddie Grant: A little slower then some of the other entries, but it's still got a good bounding rhythm to it to roll over the massive hills in the game.
Hang On To Yourself by David Bowie: Sound advice for anyone picking up the series for the first time, taken from the best album ever made.
PixelPoet chimes in with a batch of rock.
Song 2 by BlurBullet With Butterfly Wings by Smashing Pumpkins
Battle of Who Could Care Less by Ben Folds Five
The Distance or Shadow Stabbing by Cake
Blue Orchid by The White Stripes
Finally, Sgt. Sausagepants takes us to a goth club for a little bit before spinning a song from one of the greatest films ever made.
Sin by Nine Inch NailsI Feel Loved by Depeche Mode
Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by Santa Esmeralda

Fuer Immer by NEU! makes me want to drive very very fast.
I've always been fond of Push It, by Garbage. whenever Shirley sings "push it, make the beats go harder" you just want to accelerate more.
Oh dear, I wish I hadn't read this thread now... I'm downloading the game now (after an unplanned trip) as I type. If I hear "Roam" anywhere near this game, I'm banning my PS3 to the basement.
"High Rise" by Ladytron is an excellent choice. But I have a few suggestions of my own, which attempt to keep with the electro-crazed nature of the original(s) (which, for full disclosure, I love, and owned, either before or after the games):
"Tits & Acid", Simian Mobile Disco
"Believe", The Chemical Brothers
"Street Justice", MSTRKRFT
"In the Car Crash", Swayzak (for the literalist)
"Beautiful Burnout", Underworld (for the mellower driver)
"This Boy's in Love", The Presets (for the emo boys and gals)
Happy racing,
Electrobear
I can't believe you'd put 'La Rock 01' but not 'My Friend Dario'!!! Much more appropriate Vitalic racing song ;)
Ummm, just to share a sample of my own playlist:
Various Daft Punk Alive 2007 songs
Benny Benasi - I love my sex
Jamiroquai - Supersonic
Jet Set Radio Future tracks
Shout Out Out Out Out (Canadian band) - Chicken Soup for the Fuck You
Here's my current playlist. I tried to make a list that fit with the game thematically. It's a bit industrial, a bit dance, a bit break-beat and more updated. There are also a few offbeat songs added in for spice. I have it set on shuffle although it should play through fairly well.
Before I get flack for Where's Your Head At the Klaas Remix makes it something you can tolerate again. ;)
