Soul Calibur IV Balance Patch Released, Kilik Unaffected

Soul Cal patch.JPG

I love me some Soul Calibur 4. There are few things better than going online with my fabulous custom fighters and match up against the endless supply of opponents. But after playing for so long, you start to notice little things that just seem, well, unfair. It looks like Namco Bandai noticed these issues too, because it has put out a patch to better balance out character strengths and weaknesses. I can only confirm for now that the patch is up for the Xbox 360 version, since that's the version I have, but I would assume the PS3 patch is up as well, or will be soon.

Over at 8WayRun they've put together a list of changes that come along with the patch. It's a very detailed list, going into specifics on which moves for each character were affected, and by how much. Unfortunately, none of Kilik's moves got the Bob Barker treatment, so people trying to get ahead in rankings will still choose him and do the same move over, and over, and over again. There was also a change done to make moves do less damage to the soul gauge in general in order to make soul crush moves more difficult. Considering that I have yet to pull off a soul crush before the patch, it looks like I may never get the chance now.

Check out the full list of changes over at 8WayRun. Hope to see some of you online in the newly balanced Soul Calibur 4. Just please, don't play as Kilik.

So according to that list my personal favorite character Seung Mina was perfectly balanced? That's funny.

Well, except for the fact that her breasts grew a cup size between 3 & 4. That's gotta hurt the back.

If you just wanna see what a soul crush / critical finish looks like just adjust these variables in training mode;
1st action set to standing guard (enemy)
Set soul gauge to empty (enemy)

You'll get a soul crush every time you hit them so all you need do is either hit all four face buttons OR the appropriate shoulder button that is assigned all four face buttons (typically L1 or LB).

In game use Guard Breaks, Yun Seong is incredibly easy to activate Critical Finishes, just use 6BB (aka tap forward + B, B) the second B is always a guard break. Equip high soul gauge damage skills for greater expediency. Of course any guard break character will do. I also quite like Taki as she can string together many quick attacks followed by a high powered attack (too many options to list). Finally if you break armour in an area (low, mid, high) focus on that area for greater damage to the soul gauge if the attack is guarded.

Too bad I already traded in this horribly unbalanced game. They needed to patch this thing much sooner. And if Kilik wasn't nerfed then I'm positive I still don't want to play this game.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
