Spore - One Copy = One Account

There's been a lot of uproar with EA's use of DRM, and another log was tossed onto the fire. It turns out that while the manual for Spore says you can have multiple accounts using the same copy of the game, that isn't the case.
That section in the manual was a misprint and will be corrected in future printings of the manual. There is one Spore registration/account per game/serial code so you are correct in that you cannot make multiple accounts at this time.-EA_Violet, EA Forums
I'm trying to think what the motivation for this is. Especially for Spore. If there's a game that everyone in a family might play, Spore is it. It's easy use of the creature creator and (relatively) simple gameplay would be a draw for even non-gamers. What's up EA? Why do you want to punish your customers?

It's not really a big deal, since one Spore save game file is completely disconnected with the others.
Why wouldn't EA want to punish their customers? It's fun, they benefit from it, and most people are too stupid to remember next week what happened today. Really, an explanation would be called for if they DIDN'T want to punish their customers. That'd be sick.
We've run into this in our house. We bought a copy to install on both mine and my boyfriend's computers. While the game installed fine, we both have to use my account to get any of the online content.
Annoying.
