Weekly Poll: What Is Your Sexual Orientation?

One of the things that I often get asked at conferences and other places is: What is the sexual orientation of your readers?. Now, I know we have quite a diverse readership, but I have never taken a close look at exactly who you all are! For the next few polls we are going to spend a little time getting to know you, our readers. This time the question is: What is your sexual orientation? This poll is completely anonymous, all you have to do is click the button and vote. It does not store your email address or anything else. The results of this poll will be very helpful to us as we start to search for more advertisers and other things to help make GayGamer grow.
So help us out in our attempt to know more about you and vote in our poll today! It's sitting right over there in the right hand column, so get on over there and vote!

Hey, you forgot to include 'asexual' to the poll!
Seriously...I sprout buds. :p
These results ought to be interesting!
but "transgendered" probably shouldn't be here, since it isn't a sexual orientation. :P
Maybe switch out "transgendered" for "pansexual"?
I suppose you're right, but I didn't want anyone to feel left out...
Wow almost as many hetros as bis that i didnt expect...
either that or the bisexual gaygamer community have a strict no takey poll thing going.
hehe... I voted for straight just to mess up the poll... Wow! more straights then trannies, bi or lesbians!
Does that mean we have to put up a "babe of the week"?
Is there homophobe orientation? What if gay hate himself just because he's gay?
I know one guy)))
If the software allows it, which it might not, trans should be a bonus tick-box. It's no fun voting if you have to choose between two equally valid answers.
Alternatively, ask people to pick the letter they feel describes their orientation most accurately, and let them play with the whole alphabet.
I don't mind being in the minority as a straight person. I like some of the features you guys write up :)
Where is the "i'm gay, but stop the gay ads. i come to find video games news, not to find a man." button?
We accept everyone here, except for people from Greenland. They know why!
Dace: My browser has that button, it's called Adblock Plus for Firefox.
What, no asexual option~?
I'm straight, it's amusing because it bugs the hell out of my boyfriend that I even come to this site. Despite the fact that I found it through him (he was looking for information on where to get more of the Gay Porn cards in Shadow Hearts 2 and stumbled here)
Why is trans on there? Also, why no queer?
Here comes the arguments for derivatives. I’m surprised there are as many straight people on the site. Hooray for diversity...
...even though the header suggests otherwise :P
People! Be Happy at least there's the LGBT selection in the poll and not just "gay or straight".
And also, MuneTeika, it took me a while to found out you were a woman. ("i'm not gay... my boyfriend") ;)
Check out The Sexual Orientation Game playing cards at TheSexualOrientationGame.com
All orientations are represented.
;)
Transgenderism is not a sexual orientation...
And add Queer.
I'll be 'gay' until then.
Wow, the Bi's are hiding well 'n' good, thought there'd be more on here, to be honest, it's such a warm and welcoming community.
This poll should be interesting. Already an overwhelming majority of gay guys.
And I agree that "transgender" should be a tick-box, and there should probably also be a "other" choice for those who don't go by the traditional labels.
Bi and Proud here :P
My two cents. I think the poll is fairly inclusive. When we talk about the queer community in Toronto, it is most commonly represented by LGBTQ which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transexual/Two-Spirited, Queer/Questioning.
Neat poll. The results are interesting.
Honestly, this was a very dissapointing poll. I know that the gay/lesbian-community (and I don't mean the LGBTQ-community) often feels the desperate need to create a good us-feeling to survive all the shit that the world throws our way. But can you _please_ do that without reinforcing the hetero-norm?
I'd love to see a poll like this:
What part of the heterosexual norm do you feel the most uncomfortable with?
1 Biology => Gender
2 Monogamy
3 Gender roles
4 Expectation of opposite-sex-relations
5 Sexual orientation => identity
6 Being born "that way" is a (the?) valid excuse
7 BDSM-predjudice
8 People thinking they are doing something good when they "tolerate" "us"
9 All of the above
Sorry for the rant. I just got so dissapointed. I usually like the site very much. *hugs*
I feel I need to say that some of you are missing the point of this poll. I am trying to find out who reads the site. I'm not trying to make you fit into a category you don't agree with or anything else. It is merely a means to find out what our cross section of readers is. Please don't read too much into it.
As a transgender man (FTM) who reads this site daily, I need to weigh in on the poll.
While I really appreciate your intention of including transgender in the poll, it actually doesn't belong there.
My gender identity is "transgender," and my sexual orientation is "gay." So polls like the one above make me choose between my identities.
If you were to do another poll about gender, you could offer "male," "female," "FTM," "MTF," "other" as options. That would make transgender people feel included!
For this poll, I've checked "gay" since that indeed is my sexual orientation, but if I hadn't left this message, you would not know that I am also trans.
Thanks for opening this conversation, and thanks for running such a great site!
Nick
I see no benefit to this poll, and as such, I refuse to be a part of it. If you're interested in my personal sexuality, then you can talk to me about it. If you're interested in making me an anonymous statistic, I must politely decline.
Yawn at people that are asking for other or whatever options.
People are so afraid of labels and stuff, but reality is that things are the way they are.
If you're a human being, you are either attracted to men, women or both. This gives you gay, lesbian, bi and straight.
I'll also concede that you need an asexual option, because in the past I have been asexual. It does exist.
And I'm willing to give you pansexual if you have an affinity for animals or vegetation or random inanimate objects (metal fetish,...).
But that's it.
There are no other options besides those. Other is just an excuse for people I constantly see on the net who refuse labels, but really are just affraid to admit what they like.
I ticked bi, since there's no kinsey score allowance (I lean more towards being lesbian, but some men get through :P).
And chalk another trans tickybox ticked, too :P
Secconding Nick's comment above; if there's nothing that can be done for it now just take it as a note for the future, Fruit - that's not the way to be inclusive on that one.
Have voted as the poll seemed to intend, be curious to see what the final result looks like :).
@Nexus:
"If you're a human being, you are either attracted to men, women or both."
A shockingly large proportion of heterosexual men are simply attracted to people with breasts.
I am of the opinion that a similarly large proportion of homosexual men are simply attracted to people with penises.
Neither group would call themselves bisexual, and neither group would call their preference a fetish. But they are, and it is.
The question is just not that simple. What we really want to know isn't whether someone else is straight or gay or bi, but what our personal sexual opportunities with that person are - and that is not something you can glean from a label.

Yeah see, we call people with breasts woman (not taking into account flatchested women and obese men here) and people with penises men.
As for neither group calling theirselves that. That's exactly what I was talking about. Why the fear to admit you like men or women. It's just a name. You don't have people with brown hair going: "Don't call me a brunette. I don't like labels." That said, the people who refuse to admit their sexuality probably do refuse other silly stuff like their haircolour because of the dreaded labels.
Someone is going to have to explain to me what the difference between "gay" and "queer" is.
