Xbox Gamers <3 Obama
Here's a shocker: Xbox 360 gamers favor Obama over McCain. Who would have guessed it? 100,000 gamers participated in a survey on XBL. That's a larger (if less scientific) sample than Gallup, NBC and CNN polls combined. While I've never heard the Xbox Live crowd described as a bastion of liberal and liberated thought, they're far too young to lean McCain... right?
The results of the poll:
- Obama \ Biden: 43%
- McCain \ Palin: 31%
- Undecided: 13%
- Other: 13%
That 31% McCain surprised me a bit, maybe because I live in NYC where being anti-Obama can get you cut in the face - is that the faction that yells homophobic slurs into their headsets while gaming? Probably. I'm also surprised at the relatively plump 13% who opted for "other," and I can't help but wonder if those are votes for Nader, Paul, or "I don't vote, dude."

Part of it could be that gamers tend to like science and technology, seeing as how gaming sort of requires it.
And more and more the Republicans are embracing backwards Christian fundamentalism, including its denial of science.
For being a member of a crowd that claims to be the bastion of liberated thought you seem to show a narrow minded disdain for anyone that doesn't agree with you by stereotyping mccain/palin supporters as homophobes and assume "other" means doesn't vote...I'm sure NO ONE that supports Obama has ever uttered any homophobic slurs ever...right...
As a gay man, I loathe and oppose large segments of the conservative movement (especially christian fundamentalists), but it continually shocks me how close-minded, elitist and judging liberals can be while claiming to be champions of personal freedom and thought..when we reduce our arguments to name calling and stereotypes it just shows that we approve of those types of tactics...
WiF if you want closed mindedness visit the Poll presidential debate and see the ridiculously low standard of arguments put forward by those very people, and the belittling of anyone who is a Republican.
I'm one of those infuriating left wing realists, I'd rather discuss and reason than bludgeon with my own thoughts.
Basically, the standard of the thread is
"OMFG YOU VOTED MCCAIN HE WANTS TO RAPE US IN THE FACE AND TEACH US GODS LIFE AND NO BABIES KILLED PRO LIFE"
It's an insult that this kind of person represents me as a demographic.
How many times have Republicans mentioned the words "gay" or "lesbian" in a support capacity and in a non-judgemental way?
Let's see: ZERO.
Ever since the Christian Right infected the Republicans back in the early eighties, their social policies have largely been based on the MOST LIMITING book in all of existence -- your favorite and mine: THE BIBLE. Their unity of Church and State was due back to come bite them in the ass -- and that bite is a comin' back now.
It was nice of Barack to include us and our rights in his mega-acceptance speech in all its splendor. It's nice to feel human and included.
Obama's got my vote on this issue alone...HANDS DOWN. And for a WHOLE LOTTA other reasons...
WiF - I have no disdain, I'm genuinely curious as to the demographic spread of the "Other" voters. (And who said I'm voting Obama, anyway?)

Palin thinks the gay can be prayed away, that Jesus wanted us to invade Iraq, and that dinosaurs coexisted with humankind 6,000 years ago. She's a loon!
