Atari Rescues Riddick, Ghostbusters

Looks like Atari finally got something right. They've just picked up the rights to Starbreeze's sequel to the rather awesome Xbox game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena should be out in Spring of 2009. Good news. Especially since Atari has also signd a licensing deal with Universal to continue the Riddick franchise. Which should be really good news, as long as Starbreeze continues to develop them.
"It's very exciting to have Assault on Dark Athena as part of Atari's 2009 publishing line-up," said Phil Harrison, president of Infogrames, parent company of Atari. "The first game in the series was a landmark in action gaming and the outstanding team at Starbreeze are creating a feature-packed follow-up which will delight fans and new players alike."
But even better news is that they've also snagged the Ghostbusters game back out of limbo with plans to release it next summer in time for the film's 25th anniversary. (Wait -- that was 25 years ago? That's a quarter of a century! God, I'm old...) Although this move is unconfirmed by Atari, I'm more than willing to accept the word of "sources close to the publisher" who say it's a done deal. It's also believed Atari has the rights to sequels to this game, as well.
Hey, Atari certainly picked better Vivendi leftovers than THQ, who got saddled with the sequel to the reviled 50 Cent game, 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand!

I just want to propose that at least one post per day be accompanied by a photo of Vin Diesel. Rain is optional but encouraged.
I'm glad Atari rescued the Ghostbusters game, I was really looking forward to that.
