Coraline Details From D3

I am very much looking forward to the stop-motion adaptation of Neil Gaiman's book Coraline, mostly because it's directed by Henry "The Nightmare Before Christmas" Selick. I had previously written about the news that a game would be forthcoming, but now I have some more details. Coraline is being developed by D3, which gives me hope as they were responsible for Puzzle Quest. On the other hand, they also did a Ben 10 game, so there you go. The other cause for concern is that it is being developed for the Wii, DS and PS2. Which seems to be par for the course with licensed games these days. You put it on the PS2 because it has a ridiculously huge user base, the Wii because it's hot right now, and the DS, pretty much for the same reason. I suppose releasing a game based on an animated film for the Xbox 360 and PS3 isn't top on anyone's list.
Anyway, the game will put you in Coraline's shoes as you explore the immersive 3D environments from the movie like the Pink Palace and the Other World while interacting with all the wild characters that live there. There will also be mini-games and adventures with Coraline's friends Wybie and Cat as they collect items to unlock the mysteries of the Other World, which sounds less exciting to me.
"The Coraline movie is absolutely mesmerizing and we feel that the visual style and tone of the game will bring the amazing stop-motion animated film and thrilling storyline to life for players," said Bill Anker, vice president of business development, D3P. "We're confident that Coraline will offer a truly immersive and interactive gameplay experience that gamers as well as fans of the movie and best-selling book will enjoy."
Hopefully it will be as immersive as they're hoping, because that's really what sells me on a licensed game. I want to feel like I'm in that movie! Ah well, time will tell... (By the way, that image is a still from the movie, not the game!)

well, i absolutely love the book, they had better no go and screw it up, is all i'm saying
The book, however juvenile, is one of my all-time favorites. I skeptical when they announced a moving in the making, and I'm rolling my eyes even more at this. I don't know...haven't seen the movie yet, so I guess I can't really judge.
For the movie I'm cautiously optimistic. For the game? No.
got a chance to see some of the stuff from the movie. looks really top notch. the voices are what have me worried. Eva Longoria? :(
