Do All DS Games Really Work With DSi?

Nintendo DSi.jpg

The DSi has seem to hit another hurdle on top of the region lock for DSi-specific games. One developer, who wished to remain unnamed, has stated that they're having trouble getting an upcoming DS game running on the DSi. Apparently, the game runs fine on DS systems, but freezes and crashes when it is played on a DSi, and Nintendo is withholding certification from the game until it runs on the DSi as well.

This raises some troubling questions. Just how different are the DS and DSi hardware? Nintendo's official statement is that "all DS titles are compatible with DSi" and yet here is a developer with a working DS game that is not compatible with DSi. There are some obvious questions about the reliability of the source, since the developer in question remains unnamed and it is unknown the extent to which the developer went through bug checking on the DS. So with that in mind, take all of this with a grain of salt. However, if it is true I wonder how many currently released DS games will have similar issues when running on the DSi. Maybe if the developer could "leak" a youtube video of the game in question and its running issues it could help clear up exactly what the differences between the DS and DSi are. I'm going to remain skeptical of this so far, but at the same time there's a part of me growing ever more wary of the DSi.

I'm glad I'm happy with my DS Lite and have no intention of getting a DSi anytime soon, if ever. Stuff like this makes me see the wisdom of my decision.

The DSi seems like even more of a waste of money than I originally thought.

Two cameras? Really? Oh yeah, and flash memory for downloadable content that Nintendo ORIGINALLY advertised back at E3 before the Wii launch. This was around the release of the DS Lite might I add.

They never mentioned that functional DS---> Wii connectivity would necessitate a 3rd DS being purchased. Talk about a bait and switch.

Well good luck with the system sales Nintendo, you picked a hack of a time to release a worthless device, right in time for the holiday depression.

Cheers
