Fable II Collectors Edition Gets Cheap
Microsoft today announced that Fable II is well on its way to store shelves, confirming a release date of October 21 in North America and Asia, and October 24 for Europe. But US citizens will to get a bargain if they wanted to opt for the collector's edition. Due to "supply chain issues" (whatever those are), the estimated retail price of the Fable II Limited Collector's Edition is being reduced from $79.99 to $69.99.
Unfortunately, those issues that dropped the price by ten bucks also now means that you're not getting everything Pixel mentioned when the special edition was announced back in August. Dropped are the premium box, five printed fate cards and Hobbe figure. Now all you get is the game, the bonus DVD with the "Making Of" feature, and the bonus in-game content (the extra dungeon, armor and a couple weapons).
To make up for the inconvenience, they've created a special Fable album that will be available to download free for a limited time. The soundtrack sampler will include selections from Fable 1 and three tracks from the upcoming Fable II soundtrack. Starting at 9AM on October 6, just head over to Sumthing Digital and enter FableCollection as the promotion code.
I'll take the free soundtrack, but the change in content for the special edition doesn't bother me in the least because I only planned on getting the standard game on its own. Were any of you looking forward to the collectors edition? And did this change your mind? Or is the cheaper price more of an incentive for what is still included?

i pre order it in a local store joust for the Hobbe figure (and the game of curse), the thing is i live in Mexico and preorders are made in local stores who preorder to us stores, and whit taxes, i have to pay 110 us dollar for that game and now i dont have the hobbe, the box and the cards!!!
All i have now is pray for that soundtrack to be extremely good...

Brawh! This is the first game I have ever preordered in my life because I really loved the first Fable game and wanted all those extras! I can not believe they are pulling so many of the extra stuff, I mean already had the game completely payed for and everything. I hope they at least refund the difference... I would rather they just fix the issues and give the stuff they promised. Or send it out as a separate thing later to the people that ordered the SE of Fable 2.
Atlus delayed the release of Persona 3 because of issues with the art book binding. I was counting the days until it came out and, while I wanted to play it, I was really impressed with Atlus caring enough about the fans to delay a release for an extra.

You know, if it wasn't for wanting the in game items I would totally cancel my pre-order. I was really looking forward to the box and all of the other items... What is really sad is that America is probably the biggest market for gaming and yet we are always the ones that don't get the cool swag! Really Annoying I preordered this and now they change the content.
Received an email from Gameplay, £39.99 now same as the standard edition.
But still I wanted the hobbe and cards, they should at least get them out to those that have preordered it already.
Well.. this sucks ass. I preordered the game special edition as soon as possible only to find out that due to someone who had a thumb up their bum (which I am guessing at here) that now most of the crap I was looking forward to owning with the game.. will not be coming with the game?
Sure, do not get me wrong here, I am glad at least they did not push the date back on this but.. really? A behind the scenes DVD who I for one do not give two craps about and what is this you say? A sound track to some mideval music I am not going to listen to because I do not want to crack open the 360 just for the songs. To me this is a bit of a let down.
According to the official Fable 2 blog, (See http://community.lionhead.com/blogs/fable_2_development/archive/2008/10/01/3087970.aspx) the Limited Edition does still come with the extra dungeon which you state as not being in the LE package. However, I’m pissed off anyway. Most of us bought the limited edition for the collector items that were cut, the other content will be up for anyone to purchase once the game’s been out a month on Xbox Live. Also the Fate cards will be released as a PDF; though it would have been nice to get them on printed for me on double sided card stock, which I know must go buy. Why do I have the sinking feeling this is only the beginning of the disappointments? EPIC FAIL!!!
Another blow to the American gamer. We just don't seem to be able to get any of the extra fan service goodies that you see in Japan with their special releases no matter how hard we may try and actually want them.
The extra cash is now basically just for the extra content that will probably be available to everyone who picks up a xbox live gold membership now, so in the end why did I even brother to buy the collectors edition?
