Gay Marriage: Not Just For Video Games Anymore

It's interesting to think that the video games industry, which can often be a cesspool of homophobia (stemming mainly from players, not from industry insiders) would end up pioneering gay marriage before it actually hit real life. From the Sims to Fable and Fable II, video games have been exploring gay marriage for quite some time.
Today, Connecticut's Supreme Court ruled that gay couples will have the right to marry in that state. I don't need to tell you what a huge step forward this is, especially for such a seemingly conservative state. Hopefully this will help bolster people here in California to get out and vote NO on Proposition 8 which is set up to ban gay marriage. Even if you don't ever plan on getting married yourself, there are plenty of people out there who would benefit from your vote on this issue. Don't let gay marriage in California be confined to your home gaming console. Vote NO on Prop 8.

Go Connecticut! That's my home state.
Though I have to say in response to this piece, lol.. Connecticut has never been a conservative state. It's consistently Democratic, and has had Civil Unions for a while. Gay marriage was a 4-3 ruling, but still overall you'd find most folks from Connecticut are very progressive.
Well, California is traditionally a progressive state too, but Prop 8 is nonetheless currently ahead in the polls, I’m sad to say. Whether these most recent statistics are accurate or not, it freaks Californians like me out.
Thanks so much for posting this, Fruit Brute. It means a lot.
George: I totally agree with you. Notice I said "seemingly." I think many people lump Connecticut in with the New England states that are generally thought of as being "conservative." But either way, go Connecticut!
Anyone in the SF area, No on Prop 8 has a HQ there. I have already scheduled to go and help them out the next 4 weekends, I would recommend anyone else do the same, if they can.
I've been pressing this on the forums, but I'm going to take this opportunity to do so here as well.
If you live outside of California, you can still make a difference in this election with regard to Proposition 8. The supporters of Prop 8 are outspending us 2:1. This allows them to air more commercials, which lately have been filled with blatant lies. They are also working, because polls have shown Prop 8 has recent obtained enough support to pass.
So what can you do? Donate. No matter the amount, it will be a huge help. Every little bit will add up into something that can make a huge difference. The No on 8 campaign has recently made a great ad to combat these lies, but it needs money to air them enough to make a difference!
Remember that if Prop 8 passes in California, it is very likely it will set back the NATIONAL gay movement for marriage by at least 10 years. As California goes, so goes the nation. Do you really want California going TOWARD a ban?
in san diego, i have YET to see a "No on Prop 8" sign or sticker, except for the HQ in hillcrest. its sad. a gang of co-workers have 'Yes" stickers all over their cars. its slightly uncomfortable at the water cooler.
Thanks for posting this Fruit Brute. And thanks to all who are helping with the No on 8 campaign! My partner and I decided to get married before the election just in case Prop 8 passes. Last minute wedding plans. Eek!
It's heartening to hear about Connecticut. We've come a long way and let's do our best to make sure we don't lose ground now.
Yes, I find it discouraging. EQCA should of had signs and stickers sent out to union halls and democratic party headquarters so people who live in Republican or fundie oriented areas could make their voice heard with the NO on 8 swag.
Yeah i just found out about the news today too. People from CT are mostly a bunch of asses but if you get to know us, about 60% are smart decent people.
Anyway i'm glad it passed =)
I have a "sister" (long story) who lives in Connecticut and was excited to find out about this. Too bad she's in a threesome. But now we don't have to move to California to live together. XD
Don't forget to vote no on 2 if you're in Florida as well. That one needs 60% to pass so we've got a shot at stopping it.
It's getting pretty depressing here in Cali with reguards to prop 8. One of the TOP radio shows here has a lesbian host and durring her show they run PRO prop 8 comercials! *sic*
