Gears Goes Gold, Gets Goodies

The much-hyped and probably somewhat-anticipated Gears of War 2 has gone gold, and is due to hit shelves on November 7. "After two years of pouring our heart and passion into Gears of War 2, the team is immensely happy with what we've created," said Epic Games Design Director Cliff Bleszinski. "This is Epic's best work yet, and we can't wait to see the response from fans and newcomers to the series alike."
How to keep busy for the next month? Well, there's a website that reveals the events that occurred in the six months between Gears and Gears 2, a seven-part documentary series going behind the scenes at Epic Games, a Gears of War comic book series from DC/Wildstorm (first issue out now!), a novel titled Aspho Fields (out October 28), and another series of collectible figures.
In addition, over 20,000 retail stores across the world will be participating in the "Midnight Mayhem" launch program which will commence at 12:01 on November 7. Anyone who buys a copy of Gears 2 at one of these participating retailers will get themselves a free Xbox LIVE token good for an exclusive in-game gold-plated Hammerburst Assault Rifle so you can kick some extra ass in multiplayer. Also, Gears fans will want to mark their calendars for the weekend of November 7-10 where Xbox LIVE will offer special programming including a "Game With Fame" where Xbox LIVE members can take on the Gears 2 development team at Epic for prizes.
Also, everyone who buys Gears 2 will get an Xbox LIVE token to download the Flashback Map Pack for free. This pack will be available at launch, and includes five maps from the original Gears: Canals, Gridlock, Mansion, Subway and Tyro Station. And as a bonus, the graphics have been upgraded. Oh, and every copy of Gears 2 will come with a free 48-hour Xbox LIVE Gold membership so you can enjoy the multiplayer. In the Limited Edition version of the game, you will find a token to unlock an in-game gold-plated version of the Lancer Assault Rifle. There will also be videos popping up on Xbox LIVE for Gold members starting November 7 featuring interviews with the game's developers with gameplay hints and whatnot.
Phew! Is that enough for you?
