I Will Be Level 70: Chapter Two

Agyeman21.jpg

I've progressed nine levels in seven days to become a level 21 Warlock. With this kind of speed I'll reach level 70 is no time flat. What have I been up to in the past week? Party time!

My first actual party setting in the game didn't go according to plan. I was chillin' in the Ghostlands with naught a care in the world when I was invited to join a group dead set on taking on this big ogre looking guy whose name escapes me at the moment, I want to say Lazeroth or Denis Leary or something like that. Being the nice guy that I am, I joined their group ready to employ my Voidwalker who I refer to as Maggie Gyllenhaal. Then came the most insanely frustrating hour of my life. Our first attempt to take down the monster was thwarted by another group of questing people who attacked first. My group gleefully hacked away thinking they'd be getting experience for the kill. Even I knew that doesn't happen. Our next attempt lead to the decimation of our entire party, our third attempt was a repeat of number two. Between each attempt one member of the party scouted ahead while everyone else engaged in small talk. What happened to the education system? I can understand crazy spelling in the heat of battle, but during downtime? We're not talking instances of rearranged letters. No, I learned spellings for words that stretched the English language to its breaking point.

After attempt four and five ended in utter failure, some of the party was on the brink of disbanding. One member was secretly attempting mutiny by private messaging everyone but the group leader in an attempt to kick him out and form our own group. I tried to point out that one less person in the group doesn't make taking out a monster whose strength outmatched our own any easier. This would lead to my downfall. The mutiny fellow managed to convince our leader to step down so he could take over. Our fearless leader obliged and the balance of power shifted. Our new evil leader suggested turning our party into a raid party. Now I'm no expert, but something in the back of my head told me the game probably had a way to prevent 50 people from taking on a level 21 Elite Mob. I was afraid for my life so I said nothing, I would watch our leader fail. We had a raiding party of ten people and took out the monster. I sent Maggie out for the first strike, and it was magnificent. We took down Denis Leary and our party ran to collect his head. One small problem, there was no head to gather. What had happened? I figured it was the raiding party that foiled it for us and as I was about to type this I was beaten by our evil leader who wrote:

"It was the Warlock's Voidwalker. We get no loot because it attacked first."

What?! How dare he? Does he have any idea who I am? My party tilted between fearful belief and skepticism. This is when I knew it was time to leave. I bit adieu to the party, told them good luck and disbanded. The moral of the story: People are nuts. A happy ending to this tale though, last night I duo'd (is that the proper term) with another guy and took down Leary, just the two of us. We politely thanked each other for the help, traveled to take down another strong monster and then went on our way. That's how I like to play.

Quick report on my "friends" who are on the same server. They're thinking of moving to different servers, and I've yet to meet any of them online. I'm trying to convince my brother to start a character on Norgannon but he's too busy preparing his own characters for Wrath of the Lich King. Such is the solitary life of the Warlock.

Check back next week when I will hopefully have a mount and tell you the tale of how I left my life of Warlocking behind to become a tailor.

ha ha.. great story..

There sure is some super spelling going on in WOW.

No quest progression when in a raid.. oh well.

Don't let all the stupids turn you off to group questing.

arkadin said:

yeah - that group leader had no idea what he was talking about. if you're in a proper group and your vw attacks first (as will often happen if it's being used as some sort of (off-)tank), it's all golden. the problem, as Mimalito said, was that there's no quest progression in a raid, so the head of Luzran can't be picked up in a raiding party. oh well.

grouping is actually the thing i miss most about WoW... round about lvl 20 or so on my rogue i found a great great guild that took me all the way to 70. when i was in Outland, there was a guy Ruzzie who was leveling his warrior at the same time/rate as me, and we always happened to be on at the same time. great guy, and miss him a ton. ah well.

now that yo're in your twenties it might be time to start shopping for guilds. the reason i went with mine was, actually, because the guild master was a married mom with a couple of kids. you can imagine how this might be a bit of a rarity. turns out the majority of us were at the very least of legal drinking age, and so the guild chat was, for the most part, totally civil and fun and friendly.

but yeah - finding the guild that's right for you is crucial to the WoW experience, as far as i'm concerned. good luck with the search!

You should really look into the recruit a friend thing they are doing doctor,it triples xp and lets you summon each other once an hour, find one other person you can stand to play with, and who might have similar hours to you, and your gonna level 3 times faster, cause the levels really start to slow down in the 30's and the 50's, your story about the party is hilarious though! : )

lol arkadin same for me found an awesome guild run by a married mom with a couple kids the husband was an awesome raid leader and most everyone was around college age and actually had a couple of pretty cool HS kids that seemed mature enough.

And that my friend is why ultimately, I stopped playing WOW. I have no patience for stupid/rude people. And they seem to be everywhere in WOW.

Ahh.. Knucklerot and Lezran.. just wait till later when you have uber elites running after you in other zones :) good times!! Anway.. IF you ever decide you want to change servers you'd be more than welcome to WICKED :) **Shameless plug**

I know I enjoy the guild and lvl'ing is easy when you can ask for some help now and then :)

Gah this is why i solo and prefer PVP to all PVE. Took me forever to get through the teens and 20s because I hated grouping. But once you hit 30 head for Stranglethorn Vale and you'll start flying through the levels.

Also: Warlocks rule. My first character was a Warlock and I still play him over all other classes (though it took me 4 years of only subscribing during summer and winter breaks to get the character to 70).

Proudmoore is the unofficial gay server (somehow). Lookup the Taint, about 1500 members. Your experience is no different to that of randomly striking up conversation with people in the post-office, at least with a decent guild to fact-check with and adventure with, you won't be so powerless in dealing with those retards. One of the roughest lessons about MMOs is realising that it's actually less of an escape from reality than you might think ...

That story was hilarious. I know the feeling, as i mistakenly joined a raid when I was just starting to clear the quests in RFC and learned the no quest progression thing the hard way. On another note, my level 60 warlock is looking for a new home full of GBLT folks. I would head to proudmoore but don't necessarily wanna hit a high pop server. Any other sort of unofficial GLBT servers out there (a PVE one please)? I need to get the hell of Duskwood.....

Raiding party? I'm level 54 and I've never been in a raiding party.

Just remember getting from 60 to 61 takes as long as getting from 50 to 60. Big EXP jump when you hit 60.

WICKED is a fantastic gay guild on Eredar (sadly it is a PvP server if that is not your cup of tea). HOWEVER! It is a much lower overall population and the guild members are helpful and fun.

I was once a part of the Purple Menace on Detheroc, followed for a short time with The Spreading Taint on Proudmoore (which is now The Taint). Out of all three gay guilds I can tell you WICKED has afforded me the most fun and nicest community.

And yes, that community is key to a proper and, lets face it, bearable WoW experience. Any old guild grows tired after a while, and without friends or people of similar outside interests, it can be a very lonely and often-times boring experience. So I highly suggest making the switch to a different server *cough-Eredar-cough* I'll even help you get back up to speed in a faster manner. My 70 warlock and priest are more than willing to help a nice guy out.

Best,

Daimien/Aedan of WICKED, Horde Guild

Too true, that story...

My little gay troll rogue and my big dyke tauren shaman needs some other queers to play with on the Emerald Dream server, if anyone's on there...

Hay..... yeah, I have to say this has been my experience as well. The jewel people are rare, and the lame peeps seem to be everywhere. Lots of grey items, not a lot of epics. Is that really any surprise? Let it roll off your back, and enjoy the experience of the game... The cool guys are out there, I swear.

npupp said:

well there is the small issue with summoned helpers (VW)/Hunter Pets... letting them do all the work in killing something will gain you loot (or XP?). But is not a first attack thing, thats codswallop! ^__^ First attack only comes in when people from different groups (or 2 non grouped players) attack a mob. First attacker gets XP and loot (tagging).

OMG! You guys are my heroes right now... I'm still a WoW noob. I have a lvl 15 druid night elf that I played a year ago, but just started a new undead warlock and, I have to say, she kicks ass and I'm only at lvl 12 so far! lol But I had no IDEA there were gay guilds on WoW! Now y'all have me thinking about changing servers! I'm on Silvermoon. Any suggestions?

I've only played one mmorpg. That was Phantasy Star online for the dreamcast. LOVED it. I've tried final fantasy xi twice and the first ten levels is so tedious that it isn't worth while. I want to team up right off the bat and go on an adventure.

Which is wow more like?

Oh and I love these posts :)

MarsAttack said:

@wolverine

It is closest to neither.

Phantasy Star is kind of its own beast. And FF11 is a big steaming pile of tedium that smothers you with it's infinite boredom. And this is coming from a die-hard Final Fantasy fan.

WoW, now more than ever, is probably the MOST "casual friendly" MMO on the market. And it will likely stay that way well into the next expansion this November.

Let me put it to you this way: it is possible (if you know where to go and what to do) to level from 1 to 20 in less than six hours. It takes less than an month for even a person only playing three or four times a week for only a few hours at a time to reach 70. As long as you have a good guild and a few good MODS (Carbonite is your best friend in the world. Of Warcraft.)

Dear Doctor: Come to Eredar.

WICKED is a fantastic guild, full of brilliant spellers (although grammar is sometimes a toss up ;).

In all seriousness though, WICKED of Azeroth is the reason that I stuck through WoW and made it to 70. Being a part of a guild makes a huge difference, especially when grouping and crawling through those lowbie dungeons like Wailing Caverns, Shadowfang Keep, Razorfen Kraul... etc.

And keep these updates coming. They're always a joy to read.

Jonathan said:

I don't think I would have the dedication to level that fast. Great job! I love reading your updates. One piece of advice if I may, however. I recommend putting just five talent points into affliction. The Improved Corruption talent, specifically. It really helps when you're dishing out curses to have one more instant cast. It is your character, and you may do as you wish, but whenever I play, I cannot live without instant cast Corruption.

(Someone might have said this before, but I'd like to reiterate. :) )

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
