Make Your Avatar Fabulous, For A Price
I don't think anyone will be all that surprised about this, but Microsoft has officially confirmed that you will be able to buy more clothes and accessories for your Mii 360 Avatar through Xbox Live Marketplace. Microsoft already charges for new gamer pictures, and the way I see it Avatars are at least in some way a replacement for those, so this is to be expected. Robin Burrows, Xbox Live product manager for European, Middle Eastern, and African territories explains:
Yes, more animations, more customize capabilities in terms of emotions and features but then also as well wardrobe enhancements over the course of time, so fashion brands hopefully launching new ranges through Avatars being one route. Obviously the whole world of Spore, football, etc, lends itself to this environment. Games themselves where you can customize your Avatar like the character from a game as well, these are all possibilities that Avatars will explore over the course of 2009 and beyond, definitely.
So not only will we be able to bet new clothes for our Avatars, but new animations too. It's a nice touch. Whether any of them will be worth the price is yet to be seen (and doubtful), which is made even harder to determine since no pricing for Avatar content has been set yet. What I'm hoping happens is something similar to how gamer pictures are treated, where you can unlock some of them from playing games. I have yet to pay for gamer pictures on Marketplace, and I doubt that will change with Avatar content, but if I can customize my Avatar with content from the games that I play I think it would be much more personal than by just buying clothes for it and making up a style.

Bloody hell, I just paid 100 points for my Starscream avatar and I want to keep it. I don't want to replace it with a Gaia Online money drop.
No surprise there. Same as home, and lets face it, if people could customize Mii's for a Nintendo Points they would do it in a heartbeat. Not that Mii's are useful or anything...
Yeah, I guess this was pretty much a given. I still can't believe they charge for themes and gamerpics. It's promotional. I'm supposed to pay to advertise their product with my gamerpic? Please. It's why I only download the free ones. I'll promote the free stuff.
So I won't be buying any extra crap for my "Avatar." But if they offer up free T-shirts or whatever with movie or TV logos on them, I'll happily download them like I do the free gamerpics.
I just hope the base materials for Avatars aren't too limited to force people to buy the extras...
Wootini is exactly right. why the hell pay them to advertise for them.
I cannot understand the concept.
I was excited about Xbox's Mii-wannabe's until I learned they are going to ask for money for something that should be free.
I'll pass.
we all saw it coming. i'm a fan of the freebies too. so i see that being my main choice for ava related content as well. if there ends up being no free content i feel that it won't do very well after it's initial launch. oh and as for movements, i'm not actually sure why i would care what it does while it is standing around on the screen anyway. it's like me buying DLC for Marvel vs Capcom to have different stances and taunts. sure some people will do it, some people will do just about anything. i just don't happen to be one of them.
Mr Blezinsky said he thought it would be fun to add a curb stomp to the avatar animations, but Microsoft won't allow it.
