Mother 3's Gender-Bending Magypsies

mother3.jpg

There's been a lot of Mother 3 in the air lately, what with a fan translation, a fan-translated guide, and general Mother 3 love welling up just about everywhere.

So I was doubly pleased to get a note from Steve D, former Gay Gamer of the Week, Trism developer, and member of the Mother 3 translation team:

...don't know if you guys know this or not, but Mother 3 features a flamboyant crew of crossdressers known as "Magypsies..."
As the official homo on the team, one of my duties was to make sure these characters were properly "represented". I hope you guys (and the rest of the tranny-loving fanbase out there) will love it. :)

We definitely do! It doesn't get much better than having card-carrying gay gamers - and gay game designers - shepherding the fabulousness of the once-and-future trannies of video gaming. Rock on.

I was happy when I saw the drag queen/tranny folk in the game on my first play through a couple months back, but it was that factor, and a couple of other things that made me think that those may also be reasons for the game to never be released in America. :( That was a bit of a run on...did that make sense? XD

Amazing. Leave it to Itoi to create a gaming experience like none other.

And, of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t remind everyone about those rumors of the gender-bending Gigyas in Earthbound. You know… the mysterious bikini woman in Threed who leads our heroes into a zombie deathtrap?

Can he explain to me why everyone keeps saying "anyways" instead of "anyway" which is actually a word?

I haven't gotten to play this yet (waiting for my flash cart to arrive so I can experience it on hardware), but this makes me look forward to it even more. Thank you so much Steve D for putting forth the time and effort not just on the translation, but on helping to increase good representation of queer characters in games.

Anyways - Nonstandard form of Anyway

(according to the dictionary)

Also, wah... Why rag on people doing this? I just don't get it.

They're not drag queens.

They're all actually females. It says so in the game.

@William - They are both both genders and neither gender
