Which Candidates Are Industry Dollars Supporting?

vote.jpg

We all know that actors and musicians love to get political. We know which candidates they're supporting and sadly some people even base their own decision based on the almighty word of a celebrity. So while I don't think you should be playing one potato two potato with the upcoming election, I still find it interesting to see where campaign contributions are coming from. Our good friends over at GamePoltics have been diligent enough to compile a list of where members of the gaming industry have donated their own funds. Take a look at the list and draw your own conclusions:

Republican contributors:

* Will Wright: (Spore, The Sims) $3,000 to McCain; previously donated $2,350 to Giuliani
* Bobby Kotick (Activision CEO) $2,300 to McCain; previously donated $2,100 to Romney
* Curt Schilling (38 Studios) $2,300 to McCain.

Democratic contributors:

* Strauss Zelnick (Chairman, Take-Two) $2,000 to Obama; had previously donated to $2,500 to Edwards, $1,000 each to Biden & Richardson
* Ben Feder (CEO, Take-Two) contributed $1,000 to Biden in 2007
* Sam Houser (Rockstar) $4,600 to Obama
* Patricia Vance (president, ESRB) $2,000 to Obama
* John Riccitiello (CEO, EA) $4,600 to Obama
* John Smedley (Sony Online Entertainment) $2,300 to Obama
* Richard Garriott aka "Lord British" (Ultima series, NC Soft) $2,300 to Hillary Clinton
* Alex Rigopulos (CEO, Harmonix) $32,900 to Obama
* Kathy Vrabeck (president, EA Casual) $2,300 to Obama
* George Lucas (LucasFilm) $33,100 to Obama
* Doug Lowenstein (former ESA head) $2,300 to Hillary Clinton
* Kenneth Doroshow (new ESA general counsel) $2,500 to Obama
* Gabe Newell (pres., Valve) $2,300 to Dodd

I know I speak for everyone at GayGamer when I say that is so very important to not only register, but to actually get out there in November and vote. If I had my way I'd make it a law that every individual over the age of 18 was required to vote in presidential elections. So next month, I want all my friends of voting age in the United States to take a few minutes and participate in this election, I don't care who you vote for as long as you vote.

I'm going to vote for Hillary as a write-in candidate. XP

Seriously, though, if I haven't decided who I'm supporting by then, I will do that. Even if she does hate videogames.

Wait, Will Wright is a Republican? So evolution is helping to fund McCain?

Suddenly Spore's "herbivore, omnivore, carnivore" system makes much more sense.

I will absolutely agree that voting is incredibly important and that we are extremely lucky to live in a country where it is possible to have our voices heard (regardless of what people might say, every vote does matter), but if you want a bunch of uninformed citizens going up and casting their vote for a candidate without knowing where they stand on the issues then you are cuh-razy.

You'll have rednecks voting for anyone but Obama because of the color of his skin, you'll have people who blame Bush for all of society's ills voting for anyone but a Republican.

Sure, that's their right to do so, but forcing people to vote isn't the answer.

Maybe forcing people to vote isn't the right solution, but personally I think that if you don't vote you shouldn't be given full U.S. citizenship. If you don't uphold your duty as a citizen, then you shouldn't be allowed to be one.

Here in Belgium it's the law that everyone over 18 must vote, unless you are in a distant country during the elections.
It's a great system but beware, people who really don't want to vote tend to vote for extreme right parties.

I can't vote for you Americans but I (and most Europeans) beg of you... vote Obama, pleeeeaaase.
