Wii HD?

maninchair.jpg

I know a lot of people might wish the Wii had better graphics, but I'm a little surprised to hear people talking about a Wii HD. Apparently Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter is convinced that there's one on the way. He believes that Nintendo needs to recapture that core gaming market they lost with the casual-gaming, family-friendly Wii. "A Wii HD would really position Nintendo well, which is why I'm absolutely convinced there is a Wii HD coming," he says. There were also rumors last week that Nintendo was already showing around a version of the new hardware to developers, hoping to release it before 2011. It is believed that the Wii HD isn't just an upgrade, but an entirely new system, so I guess they're just planning ahead for when the world tires of the Wii? I mean, at this point, the thing is still doing very well for Nintendo, so there's no reason to upgrade the console (well, aside from figuring out a better storage solution for all my Wii Ware games). But it doesn't hurt to think of the future, I guess. As long as they wait long enough we don't feel shafted like with the constant retooling of the DS hardware!

I was the first to side with Nintendo on the Wii... i really wanted them to regain ground after the GC disappointing market turnout. I -loved- the GC, and was hoping for big things with the wii.

I bought the wii (midnight launch day no less) and played it non-stop for the first few months.. but then appeal died. I doubt mine has been turned on for the last 3 months. :( main reason? i bought a decent HDtv, and frankly - it makes the wii stuff look dated. A good game is still a good game.. but unless it draws me in with it's pretty shininess (i am a poof after all), then i doubt i'll bother over the ps3.

Superficial? yup. but a reality. I bet i'm not the only one either.

I can't imagine over the next 2 years that Nintendo will keep their dominance. so aiming for 2011 for the wii HD is a logical choice.

Geoff said it best so I thought I would quote him.

Where we differ is on the fact that there aren't enough interesting games for the Wii. That in and of itself has killed my interest.

Next up is the fact that now even first party Wii games are treating the Wiimote as a gimmick and not as an integral part of the experience. Whether it be the Wii fit distraction, Super Mario Galaxy, Brawl... I can go on.

Oh well I've already played through my Gamecube games and small amount of decent Wii games. Virtual console right? WRONG. Nintendo has a habit of choosing to release some of the most obscure and forgettable games for all of the respective consoles. Honestly, I couldn't wait 6 months after Super Mario RPG's VC ESRB rating was published for Nintendo to finally release it. I played it on my PC and after that final run though I retired that amazing game.

I could care less about the graphics. Sure the Wii looks iffy on my 1920x1200 monitor via component input. Meanwhile my Xbox 360 and my boyfriend's PS3 look excellent. I'm still playing stretched out SNES games on my PC, graphics aren't the issue.

Nintendo has ditched their core audience for some fast money by selling Wii's to grandmas and housewives. That and selling us the same product ad nauseam, such as the endless DS remakes and improvements at $179.99 a pop.

Or how about all the add-ons for the Wii, like the balance board, Wiimotion Plus, Classic controllers, Wiimote shells. Twenty dollar here twenty dollars there, SEVENTY dollars over there...

I was on board from day one with the Wii and DS. Now I just feel like a sucker who fell for a vacuous fad, of which was the intention of Nintendo from day one.

Didn`t Nintendo kinda say something about "Wii HD" on that fall-thingie? I heared the name Wii HD while some reported about it and the date for it was supposed to be 2011

For me, graphics are the least of my issues with the Wii. I think developers are capable of making beautiful games for the Wii (Super Mario Galaxy and Lost Winds come to mind) and I wish more would make great looking stylized games than horrible looking realistic games.

It really comes down to the games. It boggles my mind that this system, which is insanely popular and successful, has so few great games. No doubt Nintendo is catering to a more casual audience, but I have to wonder if they like the crap being released any more than we do.

It's great to see when a game can put the Wii's motion controller to excellent use, but I honestly don't mind when a game doesn't. I don't need the motion control and I'm starting to wonder if it's become a hindrance to developers. I'd love to see a game on the Wii that controls the same as a PS3 or 360 game.

Developers: make better games for the Wii. This system has incredible potential and we're not seeing it.

The past few months I've been using my Wii to play Gamecube games. And that's one thing I think Nintendo has gotten right with the Wii: backwards compatibility. Between the fantastic Gamecube compatibility and some good Virtual Console releases, the Wii's backwards compatibility is now the biggest draw for me.

Not yet I hope.

I like my Wii and it would be really enjoyable to have cleaner graphics on some games, but I really hope they wait a while to release it. New DSi, new games, cheaper xboxes, I just don't think we can take all of it at once, at least not my wallet.

I think Nintendo will obviously upgrade the graphics.

I dunno, personally I'd love to see Mario Galaxy and Brawl running at 720p at the very least. They're already good looking games, but with HD they could really shine. Would it really have cost that much more to have 720 support, Nintendo?
