Wii To Get SD Fix In Spring

Along with all the DSi info and new Wii/DS games that Nintendo has revealed at their conference, they also dropped some news that Virtual Console and WiiWare consumers have been waiting to hear about, storage solutions. Turns out that Nintendo is working on some tech to allow you to play download your games directly off of to your SD memory cards instead of constantly having to download them to and from your Wii's limited blocks of memory first. This is a big help in the fact that it means that (hopefully) you won't have to buy any additional hardware to get some storage for your Wii and it also uses a memory format, SD, that is dirt cheap and in high abundance.
The only draw back is that it is currently slated to be available in Spring of 2009 (in Japan) so that's at least another half of a year that Wii fans are going to have to wait before they can ease up the tight memory belts that have been placed upon their gluttonous Wiis.
Update: Turns out there was a BIG caveat to this whole thing. Apparently the new software will just allow you to download the games directly to your SD cards instead of having to go to your Wii's internal storage first. You will still have to upload the game to your Wii from the SD in order to play your games. Not really a solution as much as a small fix to the bigger problem, go go Nintendo.
WiiWare Games To Be Playable Directly From SD Cards [WiiWare World]

I've been a Nintendo fan for 20+ years now & that is one big thing that always pissed me off about them, building things into their hardware & never using it. I realize they did use them in Japan, but why put them in outside of Japan if you know you won't use it?
Port in the bottom of the NES, nope. Port in the SNES, nope. N64, nope. Gamecube, yes. WII, nope (So far). Right now I don't have WIFI so it doesn't bother me much, but I hope to have it one day in the future & would hope they have the problem ironed out by then!
Gamecube they didn't use all the ports, sadly, would have loved to have seen some of the other add-ons state-side....
