Xbox Blu-ray Rumor Resurfaces Again

I wish that Microsoft would either just release it or not, because this is getting a little old. Ever since Blu-ray soundly trounced HD-DVD in the next-generation HD video war, rumors have been swirling about Microsoft admitting they'd made a mistake backing HD-DVD and incorporating Blu-ray in the Xbox 360, whether through a new model of console or an external drive. And I know you're probably as tired of reading these rumors as I am of reporting them. But this might be more than just a rumor.
According to a new report, Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp has already been contacted by Microsoft to build an external Blu-ray drive, which should retail for around $100-150. No word when it'll be released, but I still wonder if this is really necessary. I know that Blu-ray looks better than a DVD when you're watching a movie, but does it really matter when it comes down to games? I think Nintendo has proven that you don't have to cater to the high definition crowd to find success in the market. So I really don't think Microsoft really needs to bother with an external Blu-ray drive. I can't imagine I'd pick one up I'm perfectly happy watching my DVD's, thank you very much.
Xbox 360 To Get External Blu-ray Disc Drive - Report [GamesIndustry.biz]

The only reason why I see Microsoft actually go through with this is kinder the sales of the PS3.
I know that I want a Blu-Ray player eventually because it is the next standard movie format. I just don't know when I'm going to pick one up.
me wanty!!!
I want an external blu-ray drive! Starving student here :P
hmmm... I have to question the sanity of anyone that is happy to watch a crappy dvd over blu-ray.
Also, I don't think they would start publishing games on blu-ray. It would probably be just for movies, like the old hddvd external drive.
At $100-150, (i.e., less than half the price of the PS3, which is one of the best BRD players out there) I'd snatch that puppy up in a heartbeat. The difference on a good television is remarkable.
Just the rumor of its possible construction is enough to keep me from purchasing a nice Profile 2.0 standalone player.
