Black Friday: What Was Your Haul?

shoppinggirl.jpg

So my fellow Americans, did you wander out to the stores this weekend, still full of turkey and carbs, and partake of our annual tradition of consumer excess? Maybe you stayed at home, clicked a few buttons at your favorite online retailers, and now you're expecting a few exciting packages in the mail? It's an important year for retailers: we're already facing losing a few of them, and they're desperate to get you to buy. Let us know what you if you partook of any of the big black friday sales: was it big or small, a present for a loved one or a treat for yourself, something you've been long wanting or something that was just such a great deal you couldn't pass it up?

Due to a combination of impatience and a birthday earlier this month, I pretty much already had most of what I wanted, so I sat out this Black Friday almost entirely. The one exception: Sonic Unleashed for Xbox 360 from Amazon.com, which was a Deal of the Day yesterday. I just have to know!

I bought exactly two (2) chili cheese burritos from Taco Bell. They weren't on sale, but Taco Bell always has rock-bottom prices.

As a former retail associate, I know better than to mingle with the crazies on Black Fridays...which is a good thing, since according to the local newspaper, an employee was trampled and killed by a mob of shoppers at one of the Wal-Marts near my house.

I found a few things at Bed Bath and Beyond that I needed to buy which were 20% off. Yeah I'm a kitchen queen :)

For some reason, I didn't get Chrono Trigger for the DS the day it came out and thought it would be a good idea to go to Gamestop on Friday at 8am - lol I waited for over an hour and got the 2nd to last copy. I also picked up Sacred 2 for the PC....It got OK reviews but I have a serious soft spot for mindless loot games :P

I stayed up until 3 in the morning (Central Time) Friday browsing Amazon's deals, and was rewarded with Left 4 Dead, Condemned 2, and Inside (Horror DVD) all for only $58.68.

I'd definitely say it was worth staying up for about $50 bucks off some great horror themed stuff. Truth be told, I was really hoping they would have dropped Silent Hill: Homecoming to $40-50. I've been waiting to nab that one since it's came out.

Target had three good buys for me. Guitar Hero: World Tour for $59 (all others were at $90), da Blob for $10 off, and Personal Chef for cheap as well.

Bath and Body works also had a giveaway of a giftbasket for cheap with $40 purchase. Love the deals where you get a free or cheap gift with purchase.

Nothing. I fell victim to the TigerDirect/CompUSA fiasco.

I had to work at Gamestop that day, so by the time I got off work, I was ready to not deal with shopping.

I did, however, score a couple DS games for my mom. Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir, and Personal Trainer: Cooking. She's part of the Touch Generation, apparently. :-P

Being in a foreign country right now, regioning dictates I only pick up DS games and pick them up I did!

Chrono Trigger (never played it the first time around, loving it now), Professor Layton, Guitar Hero On Tour Decades, Disgaea, FF4 and Harvest Moon Cute.

Definitely going to be draining the batteries to nothing on this flight :).

meh, i tried to do the whole black friday thing, but overslept a little bit. i was gonna stay up all night and stand in line at walmart, but ended up crashing and waking up at 5am. i checked out circuit city, but their "deals" were shit. there were a bunch of "bargain" bins packed with games at full price. i DID get to line up at target though, and i picked up seasons 2 and 3 of the office for $13 each, so that was pretty cool. i also caved in and bought the silver psp bundle with ratchet & clank (at $200!! i just got it because it came with a $20 target gift card. geez i'm so stupid), along with patapon. it's still sitting here in my room, because i can't decide if i actually want to keep it or not. i haven't really seen that many games that i want for the psp.

Nothing. I too already have what I want or can afford. As far as for other people, that's been done.

I participated in "Buy Nothing Day" instead. After hearing what happened to the trampled Walmart employee, I'm glad I did. Remember kids; Consumerism kills!

I celebrated Buy Nothing Day.

Well I made out well for myself! I set the alarm to get up for the amazon sales, I got fallout 3($40), fable 2($50), bioshock($10), 2 copies of Left 4 Dead($20 for each), Infinite Undiscovery($20) and a new 360 Controller($30). I don't normally buy that much but I just got a 360 so I needed some games!

I got a good haul from a combination of online and brick-and-mortar stores. Dell had a great online deal for a 360 Pro holiday bundle, where they were selling it for $250 instead of $300. I also nabbed used copies of Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, and Ratchet & Clank for $100 total.

arkadin said:

I may have picked up a 42 inch television. But, on the other hand, it was free, and a gift, so I guess I still celebrated Buy Nothing Day...

I stupidly left my PS3 at home, though, so I've not yet had the chance to see Bioshock in all its HD glory.

I'll tell you, though - I've been finishing up the last episodes of the fourth series of Doctor Who, and Davros never looked better.

I have a X-mas list full of things that are normally priced under $20, so I didn't need to shop.

But, if I had gone out on Saturday, I could have got some of the things on my list for under $10.

The simpsons game 9.95. My wii is still collecting dust though.

Hooray for Buy Nothing Day! :D

I consumed some delicious bagels that my family bought, does that count?

Don't feel like you have to be a stampeding, garbage-piling, waste-producing consumer whore every post-thanksgiving just because a bunch of ads tell you to.

I was horrible and can't even remember everything.

ironman bluray - 15
heavenly sword - 15
warhawk - 15
sweeny todd bluray - 15
sonic unleashed - 25
eternal poison - 20
in the name of the king dvd - 6

and the list goes on

I also apparently inadvertently celebrated Buy Nothing Day. I had to work almost 10 hours for T-Mobile Friday, and by the time I got out, the about $10 I had left in my bank account sounded better spent on cigarettes. D: I did however spend most of the day asking people if they found anything good in mall. Nobody, and I repeat, nobody told me about anything that sounded worth regretting not being able to be out there.

Horray for everyone that got super awesome deals thought!

I was lucky enough to be selected to participate in the "Amazon Customers Vote" PS3 sale. Totally scored an 80GB PS3 sci-fi bundle with Force Unleashed and Firefly (blu-ray) for $299!

I scored The Darkness and Assassin's Creed at GameCrazy for a total of $15! YAY!

Passing out from turkey coma on Thursday, I wasn't really expecting to buy anything the next day...

When I woke up, I ended up getting Infinite Undiscovery, Animal Crossing Bundle, and Resident Evil 4 (Wii) from amazon. Then my friend dragged me out of the house to go to the mall and I accidentally spent $200 at Express...$400 worth of clothes though. Go go sales!

Almost bought Guitar Hero: World Tour too, but I think I'll wait until after the holidays. I'm bound to get a crap load of gift cards for Best Buy. >_>

Got too many games on the go. Fallout3, Farcry2, Endwar are opened and waiting to be played. Just started on Fable 2. Half way though with TR:underworld and AC:for answer. PoP on order....

To do my bit for the economy I bought a fabulous leather jacket instead. So I can look fabulous when I am not playing games in my underwear.

In my case I got the XBox 360 Elite Holiday Bundle from AMAZON that comes with 2 games, and also they throw in the Gears of War 2 game and the exclusive Lancer replica for $399.00, I wanted to get this package for the holidays anyway so when i saw the promotion I was all over it like white on rice. ;)

I guess I was too late for the Fallout 3 XBOX 360 sale, because by the time I got to Amazon.com, every other platform had a discounted Fallout 3 except XBOX 360. I ended up buying a new PS2 Controller and PS2 memory cards, though (through the GayGamer.net store, of course.)

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
