Murdering Mama: PETA's Cooking Mama "Parody"

Not one day before Majesco is scheduled to release Cooking Mama: World Kitchen, PETA has jumped on the media train. Known for the attention grabbing antics, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has created a "parody" of the popular game series Cooking Mama. Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals invites players to mutilate a turkey in hopes of preparing a thanksgiving dinner.
In total, there are three stages with an additional "bonus" level for completing the game. The stages are:
- Clean the turkey
- Stuff and cook the turkey
- Make giblet gravy
Once you complete these stages, the additional level allows you to form a turkey out of tofu or "tofurkey" as it is sometimes called. I think I find the thought of a tofurkey more revolting than pulling the guts out of a real turkey. But that's just me.
Per usual for PETA, Cooking Mama: World Kitchen features lots of blood and general gore. The point of all this bloodshed is to try and get Majesco to create a Cooking Mama game with vegetarian recipes and presumably to get people to forgo a real turkey on Thanksgiving. While I don't necessarily disagree with PETAs mission statement, I find their methods to be somewhat flawed. While I'm sure they feel thet are doing the right thing, they may well be looking at a lawsuit for copyright infringement.

It's a crying shame the quest for treating animals better is corrupted by these sickening, vile terrorist condoning fucks.
The same type of people who destroyed Greenpeace.
Being a member of P.E.T.A. (People for the Eating of Tasty Animals), I'd like to remind everyone here that:
MEAT IS MURDER!!!
...tasty, tasty murder.
It must have been a long time since anyone at Peta had eggs, because I can't remember the last time I cracked an egg that spewed red blood everywhere.
While I'm not the biggest fan of Peta's more eccentric shenanigans, I have to admit that the artwork for Mama is totally awesome. Thanks for the new wallpaper, Peta!
There's definitely a point when your message gets lost in the sensationalism of your medium... who exactly do they expect to join PETA because of this?
Every time PETA pop up in the media it makes me more inclined to eat meat. This urge doesn't extend to other protest groups. Hmmm, wonder why?
Damnit I'm slurping down a meal replacement drink just now and all I can think about is how it's not a chicken carcas. Damn you PETA and your Meaty Goodness Inspiration!
@Game-Boy,
I had the same reaction RE:wallpaper. I called my boyfriend over to take a look and he said "That's so cyute!"
That's the most copyright-infringing "parody" I've ever seen.
PETA just needs to GTFO. The biggest group of retards ever.
PETA, meet Nintendo's lawyers.
... play nice, they bite.
Even though I'm a vegetarian, I find PETA's tactics objectionable, for the most part sexist (yes, even if they are run by a female who participated in second wave Feminism), and ineffective.
This isn't nearly as fun or offensive as their game last year, "Super Chick Sisters." Nothing beats trying to save Pamela Anderson from a robotic Colonel Sanders. I recomend checking it out at: http://www.peta2.com/superchicksisters/index.asp
Hilarious. I wish the actual game were as T-rated.
I've been vegetarian for over 11 years now (currently 25 yrs old), and I still disagree with PETA's methods for encouraging vegetarian lifestyles.
Actually, I became vegetarian out of my own curiosity to see how long I could go without eating meat. You know, testing my will. I knew nothing about PETA or the ethics behind vegetarianism...it started as a game, a bet, with my friend and myself. And now we're both vegetarians of 11 years and are very much educated about the health and ethics behind it, but in a very positive and loving way (VERY much unlike PETA).
And Tofurkey is actually very tasty...mmmm. If you gave it a try, I'm sure you'd love it. My dad is the most anti-tofu-eating type of person I've ever come across (he "gags" on the thought of eating a block of tofu), and he (to my surprise) loved it.
"I think I find the thought of a tofurkey more revolting than pulling the guts out of a real turkey. But that's just me."
Joking or not, this quote turned me off...to the point of ignoring all future posts from you, Asterick. From a writer of a website that promotes the tolerance of queers, such a quote showcases the intolerance you harbor against vegetarians and our lifestyle.
But I've been around a lot of people who share the same opinion as you down here in Southern California (where you'd expect it to be vegetarian-conscious...), so I'm not surprised to hear such an intolerant remark.
Almost comparable to the quote, "I think I find the thought of 2 men kissing more revolting than having fecal sex with a real female. But that's just me."
Vegetarian/Vegan (Raw Foodsist now, actually), Hispanic-Japanese mix, *AND* Queer...super mega minority. Talk about a triple-whammie.
It's so hard for me to find acceptance and tolerance for all of my "alternative and *craaazzzy* lifestyles." Almost seems impossible, huh, Asterick? I'm sure you know the struggle for at least one of these "crazy, abnormal, unusual lifestyles."
One day, soon... hopefully in my lifetime...
I love you and all that you are, regardless if I agree with any of it. We all develop and grow from everything in life. Not all of us are exposed to a great deal of diversity and respect/accept it at an early age, and that is completely understandable, respected, and accepted without any negative undertones.
much love and respect,
Jupiter
PETA? that's more like a newground game to me! ;)
Remind me to put extra stuffing in my turkey for the sake of this game!
What a complete and utter sanctimonious pile of rotten horse apples.
The fact you're a Vegetarian is equatable to been gay and the struggle that it entails trying to be treat equal?.
Get over yourself, the problem with ardent Veggies is their over preachy strawman arguments and self righteous indignation with everyone and everything else.
You also try and pigeon hole yourself, why?, you aren't more hardcore than anyone else.
I reiterate, vegan food is shit, and most vegans I've met [About 100] are as a general rule, preachy, insufferable prats.
I used to think PETA was ethical and really going for a great cause, but they are pushing on the criminal.
This game is fine I think, even though I completely disagree, but at least no one is breaking into anyone's farm or lab.
I did like one game were you have to walk a ferret out of a fashion show, or else he got killed!
There's nothing wrong with Greenpeace, just pissy Nintendo fanboys.
PETA on the other hand.. are just silly. It's depressing.
I think it would be awesome if Majesco came out with a vegetarian Cooking Mama. It would probably serve to show just how delicious and healthy a meat-free diet can be to those people who are unaware, and be a pretty fun game as well.
I'm a pescatarian and it's shit like this that make me upset to associate myself with the non-meat crowed.
My anti-meat diet started as a bet too. Now it's just a habitual thing. I'm all for the better treatment of animals but they're essentially food.
Oh, and Tofurkey is delicious.
I've been vegan for 8 years, and I'm 18.
I've been against PETA probably for about as long as I've heard of them.
I do not honestly think the way they go about doing things is right, and i believe they also exploit women in their ad campaigns. which sickens me.
At least they aren't dumping fake blood on people in fur coats...
This game has a lot of vegans and vegetarians palm-facing, and sighing deeply as their way of life is corrupted by a bunch of PETA members.
Quite honestly, I don't think I'd be happy not eating meat, so I will eat it until I die. The methods these animals are killed may be cruel, and I appreciate that an organization would try to bring this to light, but I know good people out here in the country that kill, de-feather, and cook fowl.
Making a person who kills an animal to feed their family out to be a murderous cold-blooded witch is not the kind of message anyone should be sent. A large portion of my diet consists of deer meat, because it saves money. My family has also switched to turkey-burger instead of cow meat because it is better for you (contains less fat) and actually tastes better in some recipes.
Even the vegs are shaking their heads which isn't a good sign. PETA makes regular people NOT want to become vegetarians. I am both encouraged and delighted to eat meat after seeing people who ast like this.
It's just another step back for PETA.
I understand they are trying to make a point on how cruel the animals are treated but the fact that they use slander as an ad makes it pointless. It just threw their point out the window with their irrationality.
It pisses me off even more that they attacked one of the nicest (and most fun) Wii games I ever played, Cooking Mama. To demand a Cooking Mama game with just vegetarian food, that is just a little pushy (more like ballsy). They actually think they are going to change Majesco's mind with a bunch of irritating e-mails? If I was Majesco I'd tell them to go fuck themselves after playing the game they made(even though I thought it was fun and had nice graphics). They could have just asked if they could have more vegetarian food instead of this bullshit. That is by far yet another dumb tactic. They act like everything in thier recipes is just meat, it is a variety of things. That just suprised the shit out me.
Considering that they are against animal cruelty, they sure love glorify showing it. Fuck, they seem a tad bit gore obsessed if you ask me.
I also lost alot of respect for Pamela Anderson (like I had any though). Anyone who can stand by these guys ought to be shot in the stomach in the shotgun and die of sepsis.
I understand that there are some honest to God good vegans/vegetarians out there. It is a choice they make like I chose to exercise three times a week. I am okay with it, I didn't make that choice like them and as long as they don't force themselves on me, I'm okay with them. I believe that I was given canine a long time ago for one purpose, "To eat meat". As my friend once said, "Canines weren't made to cut through a tough piece of celery". Diverse meat for your diet is healthy weather it be poultry, pork, beef, or fish and they are all that I try to eat often. They have many of good nutrients that is alot better than taking vitamins or any vegtable (like lentils).
Speaking of chemicals and hormones, did they ever wonder how tofu is processed or did they just assum that since it wasn't meat, it is healthier. It isn't bad but, not as great as it is cracked up to be. Even though, I enjoy tofu in my soups cause it is common in Oriental cuisine (with chicken broth of course :P).
I wish vegetarians would understand like many other people who try to preach their opinions onto others don't work. Trust me, it is fucking annoying and will not change anyone's mind. It is about as annoying as a Catholic preaching to me about how I need to change my ways or a guy telling me "Jesus loves you" when I'm wearing a Manson T-Shirt (Ironiclly I agree with alot of what Jesus taught, which was mainly from what I have always heard positive and good mannered). If less vegetarians preached, they'd probably be more accepted.
Ok, ok. I've been a vegan for about a year and a half now, vegetarian for almost two years. I'd just like to say that, I've actually supported PETA in many of its crazy antics, only because they bring things to attention that people would otherwise ignore. I, however, being an absolute lover of Nintendo and all games made for it, believe this is taking it a little too far. I have always thought Cooking Mama was very cute and had very much hoped for some veg-friendly recipes in the future, and now it looks promising with the new game coming out for Wii. I think PETA will for once possibly admit that they stuck their foot in their mouths.
I do, however, find the comment about Tofurkey and guts being ripped out of a turkey also -very- offensive. I really don't think you would like someone saying something terrible about your lifestyle, and completely agree with Jupiter. I am also in a relationship with a person of the same sex and am vegan etc. etc. I have a hard time finding acceptance or understanding of my lifestyles in general.
Anyway, the next time you make a point, please try to have some more tact. Even if I agree with you, I don't appreciate being offended on such a level. I also find Tofurkey absolutely delicious, as I just ate one on Thanksgiving. It tastes way more like turkey than you could ever imagine unless you try it for yourself!
Peace and Love
