New Weekly Poll: Dog Fight! Which Video Game Canine Is Top Dog?
Hooray! Finally a new weekly poll! Dog companions have been appeared in several games over the years and most recently in two of this season's hottest titles, Fable II and Fallout 3. Which got me to thinking, which of these dog companions is really (wo)man's best friend? Which is the most realistic? Which has the most to offer in the way of help? So, I figured I'd leave it up to you, the readers to decide. So that is the subject of this week's new poll: Dog Fight! Which Video Game Canine Is Top Dog? I vote for Shadow (Dead to Rights)... Soo adorable at ripping bad-guys a new one! But he's not on the list :(

I haven't played Fable II, and probably won't since my boyfriend beat it (read my other post about backlogs =). Anyway, the fact that he and I are getting a dog (against my will) is a consequence of that game.

Anyway, my favorite pup was my shadow wolf in WoW ("Accomplice"). I took him all the way to 70 with me, and even when I saw another shiny pet, I felt a strange sense of loyalty to the one that got me to the end.
That's how dogs should be though, a digital string of 1s and 0s.
Damn Fable II...

It saddens me that Haunting Ground (one of my favorite games of all time) is currently being beaten in the poll by Rule of Rose (one of the worst games I've ever played) =(
I'm voting for Amaterasu from Okami. That counts, right? ;)
What bout the Harvest Moon dog? Or Shadow from Dead to Rights? Or the Silent hill dog ending puppy? And Shadow's dog from FF6. There are so many heroic canines in video game land.

This poll was specifically targeting dogs in games that are companions to the player character and help out like in Fable II and Fallout. I agree that there are many great dogs in games, but this was put up for a specific group.
How about my cute little Nintendog that has been in the doggy hotel for over a year.
OOoh I forgot, change my vote to wolf-Link from Twilight Princess. I'd totally put a collar on him...

Sorry, I thought that Amaterasu would have qualified, but she wasn't a sidekick like the others. That's what I get for not reading the directions.

I dunno if fighting games count, and these ones are pretty old, but Galford's pet dog Poppy and Nakoruru's pet wolf from the Samurai Shodown series are some of my favourites.
