n-Space President Passes Away

erick.jpg

Earlier this week Erick S. Dyke, co-founder and president of n-Space, passed away after his battle with cancer. Dyke founded n-Space in Orlando, Florida along with partners Dan O'Leary and Sean Purcell in 1994 after working as part of a team that created Sega's Model 2 arcade board and developing one of the first titles to use the revolutionary hardware, Desert Tank. Since its foundation 14 years ago, n-Space has been responsible for a variety of titles across console, handheld, and PC systems, including Geist for GameCube and the DS versions of Call of Duty and Star Wars: Force Unleashed. Erick S. Dyke was 41 and is survived by his wife, Michelle, and his parents, Michael and Gretta Dyke.

Erick's Family has created a scholarship fund in his memory at his alma mater, Michigan Technological University (more information can be found here). He has also encouraged people to visit the websites for Do No Harm and One.org.

As many of you know, I've had the incredible privilege to call n-Space my home for the past four years and fortunate enough to have worked with Erick on some extraordinary games. Erick was an extremely supportive person that encouraged those around him to reach for their goals and provided the tools and methods to do so. He personally helped me and many others develop the writing and design skills necessary to develop their "side-projects" into something real and take them to new heights. His commitment to creating new and unique experiences was one that welcomed everyone to the table, including his GLBT associates. It is extremely sad to have lost such a positive voice and ally too soon. Gay Gamer sends our most heartfelt condolences to Erick's family and friends.

I am a proud owner of Geist...I actually really enjoyed what I played of it. I'm even happier to still own it now.
