Rumor: Assassin's Crêpe?

Ryan Davis of Giant Bomb is reporting that the sequel to Ubisoft's critically-mixed stealth title Assassin's Creed is moving a few hundred years into the future, from the 12th century middle east to somewhere in the 1700's. His information comes from Michael Pachter, Wedbush Morgan analyst and possible videogame provocateur. Although he was pretty certain about the time change, Pachter added his own speculation to the mix and mentioned the French Revolution as a possible new setting.
Earlier rumors claimed the series was travelling east, possibly to Japan, but I have to admit the idea of skulking around Versailles, murdering aristocrats, and hiding in a procession of well dressed dandies is a lot more interesting. As long as it didn't shoehorn in period references just to sound "authentic," it could be a pretty exciting change for the game. Hopefully it won't be too long before we know exactly what the developers are planning.
Assassin's Creed for a new era [Giant Bomb]

I gotta say Assassin's Creed 1 was god awful gameplay wise. It twas just mission 1 over and over and over again.
I really hope Ubisoft have not been told by fanbois that nothing was wrong and just do the same again because if they fix the mission and make there more then 1 way to assassinate the target (Hitman style) it will have been great.
Posing as a chef or waiter or even a hooker and killing the target in varied ways would be great!
That first line worried me when I first read it. I thought you meant 100 years in the future for the time that had the memory thing. But I don't think this is that big of a bomb shell since the memories was pretty well completed and maybe changing places is how the story just links, and the separation is so it makes since. But I agree witht he above, the gameplay sucked and about mid way I started just doing the required ones.
I had exacly the same idea when i finished the first one. If they did the next during the french revolution it would be amazing! With theyr 3d engine I bet the cities, palaces and decor details would look great. I can even imagine some of the missions like assassinating some king during a dance on a masked ball :) or the bishop during a wedding... Wow!
I hope they choose this timeframe/setting for the next game. Can't wait.
Can't say I've gotten around to playing Assassin's Creed -- I'll probably pick it up when it hits $10 or so, given what I've heard about gameplay flaws -- but this would be amazing. Parkour-inspired gameplay taking place in crowded rows of townhouses? An assassination mission that takes you through the gardens of Versailles? Yes please!
... that said, I would feel sorry for the artists that'd be slaving away on those textures. The amount of detail required would be insane!
The storyline in Assassin's Creed about the magical religion bombs was just awful. I just wish it had been a straight up tale of an assassin instead of an assassin's descendant being mind-probed so an evil conspiracy can collect alien artifacts.
And it could still be 1700s Japan.
I can't believe this yet, it's AMAZING!!!
When i played this with Duarte we foresaw the French Revolution scenario immediately. The potential is huge: the rich palaces, the arrogant nobles, the annoying beggars and as well the fact that many people was killed during it.
"non non non non... vous comprendez pas! j'ai RIEN!"
"et je veux de l'argent!!"
Priceless!
