SEGA Mega Drive Goes HD

SEGA has announced the development of the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, featuring classic games from the 16-bit Mega Drive years as well as bonus content from the 8-bit Master System and 1980's arcade library. Featured games include Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3, Columns, Alien Storm, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier, and Streets of Rage 1, 2 and 3.
"SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection is a must-have for any SEGA enthusiast," commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director for SEGA Europe. "Fans will get a chance to relive fond memories from these classic games in HD format."
The SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection can output the games in 720p for higher resolution on today's HDTV's. But whether that's enough of a selling point to make you buy these games again is up to you. I mean, I'm all for collecting classic games in new compilations, but I've already bought these SEGA classics before. Let's see some more obscure titles for a change!

Oh, there are some of the more obscure ones. Sega's website has the full 40 game roster (though it says there will also be unlockable games). Beyond Oasis, Shining in the Darkness, Shining Force 1/2, and Dynamite Heady are the more notable additions that haven't been in past Sega Collections.

Awesome, the Shining and Streets of Rage games! Those were the two series that I was most disappointed to find out were not included in the PS2's Sega Genesis Collection - great to see that they are finally being included! Still no ToeJam & Earl though...
This list is just the other 2 Sega "Collections" I have put together.... :(
I hope that you can play it without the filtering that is smoothing the images I've seen on Kotaku. I'd rather play a big pixel-y game than the smoothed out crap that was in those screen caps.
My one complaint? Why is Ecco on all of these sega compilations? It really wasn't that hot.
