Video: The Last Remnant "Awaken" Trailer
In your opinion, has this current generation of consoles produced a truly great Japanese RPG? From what I can tell, people seem more excited about the Chrono Trigger remake for the DS and Persona 4 for PS2 than, say, The Last Remnant for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Above is the newest English trailer for the upcoming Square-Enix title, a game the company hopes will become "a cornerstone for their worldwide strategy" when it releases across the globe on Nov. 20th (at least for Xbox 360. PS3 and PC versions will follow). Do you see it working? The game looks impressive, and proves the Unreal Engine can do fey teenagers just as well as beefy marines. The story is still a little vague to me: something about MacGuffins called Remnants and how they're involved with taking over the world, plus monsters! I'm a little concerned I'll get about 12 hours in before getting distracted (Hi, Lost Odyssey), but I'm glad to give it a try.

I think that (Imo) that JRPGs didn't grow with their fan base. Im a fan of JRPGs I try as many as I can. But I'm well and truly tired of the same rehashed FF-esque stories and I'm VERY VERY VERY sick of 12yo protagonists.
I would just like to see one with characters they have cleared the starting puberty age by a good 10-15 years that. Lost Odyssey has been my favourite so far of this generation.
I still love the traditional JRPGs unlike Bearfamily there, they just give me a nice feeling.
That said, I agree with him and say to Dawdle that Lost Odyssey was amazing and I loved it thoroughly. Don't play it with English, though... I used the German voice-actors and they were great.
I have to agree about Lost Odyssey. When the question was asked about next-gen consoles and solid memorable RPGs, the only game that came to mind was Lost Odyessey. Probably one of the best RPGs I've ever played. Last Remnant looks interesting, but I don't have the coin for it.
Haven't played one of these in ages! But would definitely give Last Remnant a go. Valkyrian Chronicles as well. Both look excellent.
Agreed on above post. :)
I think the first time you play a JRPG will possibly be the one that sticks with you the most. But nothing has really improved in the last decade.
