Wootini's Weekly Animal Crossing Diary

acdiary.JPG

Dear Diary,

This week, I popped Animal Crossing: City Folk into my Wii and moved into my new home. It's pretty much like the last two towns I lived in, but there's some new stuff, too. I'd love to be able to tell you all about it, but since there's so much to do in Animal Crossing, it's hard to give a full-on review in just one diary entry. So as I continue to explore my new town, my neighbors, and the big city, I'm going to keep you up to date how it's going. Maybe it'll stop being fun after a week? A month Who knows? We'll find out together! Brace yourself, though, because this first entry is going to be a doozy...

The first thing I had to decide was whether I was going to go through the effort of moving all my stuff over from my old home. Even though this town was also named Narnia, it's a whole new place. I would like to say that I don't understand why the town names are always so short. It seems rather stifling to the creativity of the town's creators, especially when you're just one letter shy of being able to call it what you really wanted, which was "The Shire." I'm just saying. Anyway, I got on the bus with Rover, who was eager to make sure I was ready to start my new life. He asked me all kinds of personal questions, but it was okay. Oh, and it was nice to see Kapp'n again. Loved the little toy boat on the dashboard like the one he used to row to the island back in the day. Aw, memories. But then the next stop was Narnia, and I hopped off the bus and into my new home.

I have to say, while everything basically looks the same, the trees, the grass, the people... it's all so much more detailed and clearer. Like I just got new glasses or something. I especially like that the houses have little fences around them, and there's more variety in the styles between them. Flowers also look much prettier and more realistic, especially the way they sway when you walk through them. I can't wait until I can plant a whole field of flowers and run through them. Well, not run, because that'll mess them up, but you know what I mean. Oh yeah, one thing I don't like is my crazy eyes. I have big, wide eyes that make me look perpetually surprised. Oh well. I'd get a makeover, but that Mii head is just weirdly huge on my tiny body. It just doesn't look right. But I appreciate having the option.

At this point, it was like déjà vu all over again. I was told to go to the Town Hall first, but really, I've done this twice before, and it's the same crap every time. I met Pelly in the Town Hall, and she told me to go check out the four houses around town I could move into. As I walked around, I introduced myself to all of my neighbors-to-be. Rodeo is some kind of buffalo or something, and he's got scary red devil eyes. Not that that's a bad thing! I recognized Alli and Sally, but they didn't seem to remember me. Oh well. I was tempted to take the house right near Nook's and Town Hall for convenience, but instead opted to take the one furthest away from everything because it's on the shore. I've never lived on the shore before. It's nice.

Of course, at this point, Tom Nook showed up and gave his slick routine about getting me moved in. Oh sure, it's no problem now. Except for the massive debt I've just incurred. A whole 19,800 bells worth! Yikes! So once again, I was put to work part time for Nook's Cranny, given a uniform and made to do deliveries and write ad copy. At least it didn't take too long, and it knocked 1,400 off my debt. Hey, every little bit helps, right? I immediately set to picking fruit so I could buy a fishing rod, because fishing is the best way to earn big bells. But before baiting my hook, I stopped by the gate to get my Friend Code from Copper. That way I can put it online and be able to visit my friends' towns. It's the best way to meet new people, and being able to steal expensive out-of-town fruit is a plus!

I did some fishing, and I think this town is going to treat me right, because the first thing I caught was a red snapper! Those are worth good money! As I was wandering around, I ran into Sahara, which was surprising. Especially since now she doesn't have you running deliveries. No, now she wants old wallpaper to recycle. Unfortunately, no one in town seemed to have old wallpaper to pass along. Weird. Fang asked me to stop by his house to critique his interior decorating, so I told him I'd stop by at five. Why is this gruff wolf so worried about design? I hope he doesn't try hitting on me when I get there!

Later on, I took the bus to the big city. I found a weird door in a back alley, and it seems like that's where Crazy Redd has set up shop. But apparently I need an invite, and I don't know how to get one yet. But I will! Actually, the city seems to be where all the people who used to randomly visit my old town have set up permanent shop. Like the fortune teller or Dr. Shrunk. Hm. I kind of liked having the random visitors. You never knew what you were going to get each day. It was more fun that way. I don't know if I like knowing where they're going to be all the time. Oh, but don't think I didn't stop into the theater to learn the Happiness expression from Dr. Shrunk's performance. I also signed up for the Happy Room Academy, though it's annoying that the sleazy Lyle is now apparently working for them. Never liked that guy. But I was thrilled to run into Pippy in the city center. Always loved Pippy. And I got a bubble wand from the street vendor, which is fun.

Oh yeah, I kept my date with Fang, and I really did like his house, though he didn't believe me when I told him so. But I love the exotic furniture. That's how I decorated my last house. I'll probably do something different this time around. I hope there's new styles of furniture. So far, all I've seen are the same types, which is very disappointing. I was really hoping for more newness in this town. The music that plays while you're just walking around sounds the same to me, and all the tunes I've heard coming out of my neighbors' stereos are familiar, too. I really hope K.K. Slider has some new songs in his repertoire this time around. I will say that I like the ability to create fronts, backs and separate sleeves for the tops that you design over at the Able Sisters. That's going to make things much more fun. And realistic. Oh yeah, and I fished so much that even putting some in the museum, I was still able to pay off my mortgage in two days! Well, my first one, anyway. Now my home will be expanded so I have more room for furniture, but that's gonna cost me a whole lot more.

I also took the time out to visit another town. It's so much more fun now because we can finally chat. I know they say silence is golden, but typing was a pain in the butt. Unfortunately, the town I visited didn't have any other fruit besides pears, which I already have, but it did have Pippy! I've made it my mission in life to chat with her and send her letters until I can finally lure her over to Narnia. It's WAY nicer than BretTown anyway. I do love meeting new people. Some familiar faces, but many new friends, too. That's the most fun. And I mean animals AND humans. I don't discriminate.

I have to say, living in this town is a lot nicer than the last two. Not only does it look prettier -- if eerily similar -- it's just easier to get things done. Being able to use the D-pad to easily switch between my shovel (thanks for that, Bret!), fishing rod and other tools makes things so much simpler. No more fumbling around in my pockets to equip the right tool for the job. Although the Wiimote makes checking your pockets and writing letters a breeze, too. Fishing is even more fun now that you can physically pull back on the rod instead of just pushing a button. And taking pictures with the push of a button is a great new addition! You can save them to your SD card if you want, and that's how I was able to illustrate this diary entry. But what I didn't realize was that the camera only holds one picture at a time, so if you like your photo, you should immediately put it on your SD card or it'll get erased the next time you snap a pic. Also, whatever picture is in memory will be erased when you quit your game. So the photo of our awesome bubble party was lost forever. Well, at least until we have another one!

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention, my boyfriend moved into Narnia, too. It's a much better arrangement than the last town where we had to share a house. I mean, who decides what style to decorate in? In the end, it didn't matter because he stopped playing, but this time he seems to be really into it again. I just hope I can pay off my mortgage before he does! Hopefully it'll be just as much fun as the first town we lived in together. Now, if we could just get Ace to move into our town... if Ace is even still around...

It's funny how easy it is to slip into the same routine as you once had. Working all day, it's hard to get a lot of fish/bug/fruit selling in at Nook's to make bells before he closes. Hopefully he'll adjust his hours in the future so he stays open later than 8:00. That's just too early. I mean, even the Able Sisters stay open until 11! Though I was surprised to find the city shuts down at 9. Why they still have a bus running after that is beyond me. There's not much to do when most everything is closed. But I'm really having a lot of fun in Narnia. I've already changed the town tune to the I Dream of Jeannie theme, and discovered that not only are there mushrooms growing in this town, sometimes they're actually furniture! I got a chair, which was pretty awesome.

I have to admit that it's basically the same as the last two towns I've lived in, but kind of combined. I know that's frustrating for some people who were hoping for more, but there are also people like me who couldn't wait to move in anyway. If you've never done this before, and think you'd have fun living another life in a fun town full of weird animals including a greedy raccoon, you should totally check it out. It's an experience! Of course, if you have lived in either of the other two towns, there may not be enough new here to make it worth your while. But that's not up to me to decide. Personally, I'm having a ball, even if it is pretty much the same experience for the most part. I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring, and Dear Diary, I promise I'll share all my adventures with you!

I'm SO glad you'll be doing another "Weekly Update" Wootini! Especially with such a fun game. I'm looking forward to reading more. Maybe we'll cross paths soon in Narnia? Or my town, Genovia?

I got mine Sunday,& like the other 2, I love it. WW was half a percentage off AC1 & AC3 though. I don't have WIFI so some things I'll not be able to do, but at least Nook will get his final shop, unlike in WW. I look forward to your updates.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
