Major In Videogames At NYU!
My old alma mater, New York University, has announced plans to offer "long-term undergraduate and graduate degrees in the research, design and development of digital games." Man, where was this when I went there? Although, to be honest, I didn't really get seriously into gaming until I was in college, so I'm not sure I would've considered trying to turn my hobby into a career.
The NYU Game Center is set to launch in fall 2009, making NYU the first New York City college (and one of the few in the country) to offer this kind of degree. They're starting off small, starting with just 10-12 students choosing between 70 courses in game design and development next year, with a two-year masters program scheduled to launch in 2010.
It's a good thing that videogames are becoming a legitimate industry and schools are recognizing the need to train people for it. Also, this might help bring more gaming companies to Manhattan, which would only be good for me, since I'm not about to relocate to the West Coast just to try and get a job!

Very cool! I've been interested in another degree or grad school for a while, and always looked around at gaming related courses especially. Thanks for the heads up, I definitely will research this. I was already looking into other multimedia programs NYU was offering :)
Also, like the article said, hopefully NYC catches up in terms of the game industry. I always hoped to find a gaming related job in NYC when I graduated, and was pretty shocked at how bleak the opportunity was here. I already knew a lot of the hot spots, which weren't local, but didn't think NYC was that empty.
