Meet FFXIII's Oerba Dia Vanille
We've seen her before in numerous trailers and images, but scans from VJump's latest issue have finally pegged that feisty red-head from Final Fantasy XIII with a name: Oerba Dia Vanille. She sounds like a dessert, yum! I hope that's a fake fur skirt she's wearing though, or PETA will be all over her in no time. I don't think Oerba is the main character -- she looks like she's having too much fun -- so we'll have to wait for details on the others.
The scans, available at the link below, also show some screen shots of the game's combat. It appears random battles are still out, but there's some kind of complicated menu system as well. Someone with a little more familiarity with the different battle options of these games will have elaborate if this looks familiar.

I'm beginning to think that nothing will ever come close to FF VI in awesomeness.
Haven't they said the game will be structured to make it seem like every party member is the main character?

That's not even a pronounceable name
Vanille hails from some sort of barbaric tribe, so I guess it's okay that she's wearing the fur loincloth - as long as she hunted the beast that carried herself, and didn't keep it locked up in a tiny cage first. ;P
she needs more crap on her belt.
And here I was foolishly hoping that FFXII was going to be an aberration and that they'd get back on track with XIII. So much for that...

FF 13 looks fine. Bash it all you want but most people are excited and therefore aren't saying about anything yet.
I'm most excited that they're skipping these androgynous boys they've been forcing on us. I like the idea of female protagonists and the main male character introduced is a HUNK!
Say what you will but I think Final Fantasy is finally getting on track AND they're still taking some chances with it too.
