Team Fortress 2 Finally Getting Updated On 360

All year PC Team Fortress 2 fans have been enjoying regular class updates and new maps, while those of us with the console Orange Box have looked on with burning jealousy. Today on the Team Fortress 2 blog a little announcement was made that should make at least half of the console Orange Box gamers happy. Finally, an update will be coming sometime next year to the Xbox 360 which will "include pretty much everything we've shipped on the PC in the last year." There's no date yet, but it's just nice to know that one is actually going to be coming. Hopefully the update will be free, since all of the PC updates have been, but given how the Xbox Live marketplace sometimes works I can't help having that little fear in the back of my mind that we'll have to pay for it.

Unfortunately, there is no announcement about any PS3 update for Team Fortress 2. Valve has been really giving the PS3 the short end of the stick, and in the case of Left 4 Dead no stick at all. And though looking at the sales data shows that the PS3 version grossly underperformed, it sucks to see those fans that did support Valve get shafted.

PC gamers are still getting even more updates though, with a minor update for the Engineer and spy available now. The full feature list of the update can be found here, but some highlights are the ability to build teleporters and dispensers up to level 3, as well as allowing spies to recharge cloaking by picking up stray ammo. It was also announced that the next major PC class update will be for the Scout, providing "tools that make him useful on maps like Dustbowl and Goldrush."

Hey good job, there, hardhat

I think I remember Valve saying M$ wouldn't LET them give it away for free.

Finally!

I hope that they fix the bugs with the update too, I'm getting sick of soldiers camping spawns and shooting rockets in there.

While I don't think FPS on consoles can hold a candle to ones on PC, I'm glad 360 users are getting their update. Steven is correct that the issue of the TF2 updates was being made problematic by Microsoft. Makes me wonder what this update is going to cost. Hopefully only $5 or so - not that it matters to me since I'm much stronger on the PC gaming front. And it sucks for PS3 players, but Valve really has no control over that. It's all on EA to do anything since Valve had no hand in developing it.

Anyone that really wants to play Valve games should really just stick to PC. You'll have mods, constant free updates, and much much MUCH better matchmaking for online.

Also, that Spy is about to get raped, he's not wearing a disguise.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
