The Mute Xbox Experience: HDMI Audio Problems To Get Fixed

One of the worst parts of any major system upgrade is the inevitable bumpy road that the development team has to run down after a release. It happens every time. 99.9% of people have zero issues and the that remaining 0.1% get to deal with the crap shoot that is the debugging process. It appears that a small selection of HDMI users are the ones at the top of that list.
So, what exactly has been plaguing these users? The distinct lack of audio during gameplay. That's right, one of the most overlooked aspects of game design is gone! Let me tell you, while music and sound effects are vastly unappreciated, you sure notice when they're missing. Microsoft has officially acknowledged this issue and has this to say:
While the vast majority of our users worldwide are enjoying the New Xbox Experience with no problems, we are aware that a handful of Xbox LIVE users are experiencing audio issues, and are diligently monitoring this issue and working towards a solution. We appreciate our members' enthusiasm and patience, and apologize for any inconveniences.
Microsoft is usually on the ball when it comes to fixing issues such as this, there is a temporary fix that seems a little risky: Unplug the hard drive, boot the system and wait for the dashboard, then reinsert the hard drive. I don't know if the drives are hot swappable, so this might not be the best idea. Lets just hope for a fast fix.

This tip works! I'm one of the few who's sound goes mute with the new dashboard. I booted w/out hdd and then put it in when dashboard was up and I had sound. I had to do this each time I turn the unit on, but hey I like HDMI picture a lot more than standard av!
Thanks for the help, I'll try to get it exchanged once stores re-open!
