Video: White Knight Chronicles Character Creation
The above video shows how you can customize your character in Level 5's PS3 RPG White Knight Chronicles. The game seems very, very pretty; those characters, not so much. Although there appears to be a really wide variety for you to choose from, the video runs the gamut form pretty yet generic JRPG heroine to something out of Shrek. And while apparently you have full control of your female avatar's bust line, I doubt they'll have something similar for your male character's assets. Not that I'd necessarily even want that. Yikes.
I'll admit, I'm a bit character-created out. After Penny Arcade Adventures, Fallout 3, the NXE's Avatars, and Playstation Home, I'm tired of creating tiny digital versions of myself and then watching them do ridiculous things. I need something to come along and make me love making myself again. What character creation systems have you liked the best, and do you stick to modeling them after yourself or someone else entirely?

When it comes to character creation nothing tops City of Heroes. Honestly I figure half the people still paying for it do it just for that reason alone. That is also why I'm looking forward to Champions Online. A defacto COH 2.
I've still not made a Avatar for 360, don't intend to. I deleted Home after 10 minutes because it was boring and useless. I don't really enjoy the whole "character creation" thing, outside of Oblivion.
I agree with Essex, City of Heroes by far is one of the best full character creators along with the Sims 2. Both are good for different reasons, CoH for its variety and customization and Sims for its facial structure customization and (kind of) realism.
This looks like a lot of fun (because I'm into the whole "character customizing" thing). I guess I'll have to eventually buy a PS3 so I can play (or play with) this when it comes out over here.
Of course COH had excellent character creation. I had so many themed characters it's not even funny. I had invented "The Dishwasher" and of course I had "Foxy Brown" neither of which look anything like me in real life. I tend to shy away from characters that look like myself.
Except for the 360 and my Mii on the Wii, those look just like me. The Wii so much that it freaks even ME out when I play.
Pretty good stuffs, surprising too since usually JRPGs aren't too keen on the whole letting you customize your avatar thing. I rarely make myself, though I do tend to have a slight "stable" of sorts of characters that I move from game to game.
City of Heroes / City of Villains definitely has a very robust character creation system, and it's one of the reasons why I love the game so much. I personally feel like there could be more faces and more obvious options, but I'm hoping they will be available eventually.
Beyond that, The Sims series is great for customization. I wish more games let you customize your characters, or at least what they wear. Persona 3 and the Tales series do a somewhat decent job at this, though. I love making Junpei run around in his swimming trunks. XD
