CES: Nyko Brings First Wii Remote Alternative

At CES Nyko has announced that they will be the first accessory company to offer a Wii Remote alternative, arriving in stores this April, in the form of their The Wand controller. And though it may be the single ugliest controller I have ever seen, it has some nice new features that may make it worth the fashion faux pas. The main thing that The Wand has going for it is a small metal strip that lies under the expansion slot on the back of the remote. That strip allows The Wand to connect to certain (Nyko made) accessories, like a gun peripheral, so that pulling a trigger on the gun would function as pressing a button on The Wand without the need of a mechanical trigger. Currently, gun peripherals for the Wii Remote rely on a mechanical trigger to physically press the B button, which often results in a mushy unrealistic feel to the trigger. Another use could be for force feedback on the nunchuck attachment. An electric signal could be sent to (again, Nyko made) nunchuck accessories that would tell the nunchuck to vibrate when the remote was vibrating.
Of course, these are small features, but it is nice to see Nyko at least making an effort to expand the usability of their accessories. And at the very least, this is the first Wii Remote alternative on the market, even if it is hideous.

If they incorporate the functionality of the Wii Motion Plus and put a better speaker in it I might wet myself.
It sure is ugly though...
Didnt Nyko already get sued by Nintendo for making that wireless Nunchuck?? I wonder how this will play out...
Cool. Nyko tends to make some pretty good stuff (usually) and I like the fact that someone is finally offering an alternative to the Nintendo Wii Remote. I'm not sure I like its appearance much but if Nyko's Wand offers the same functionality as, or improved functionality over Nintendo's Wii Remote (at a competitive price, of course) then I could definitely see myself picking one up if I ever need a replacement controller.
Ah good old Nyko always bringing third party controllers and the such to Nintendo, may not be stylish, but it's cheaper. If this works just like a Wiimote then it sounds like a guy buy, but for now it's a start. :)
