Nate Drake Throws Down With Lara Croft. Why Am I Turned On?
In the blue corner, refusing to fully tuck his shirt in is Uncharted's Nate "almost unbelievably hot" Drake. In the red corner, a sassy brit who doesn't show her age, Tomb Raider's Lara "endangered species killer" Croft. This battle will once and for all decide who is more popular. That is, unless you ask Naughty Dog's Bruce Straley who unsurprisingly has placed his chips in Nate's basket. When asked in an interview whether his character will ever match Ms. Croft's popularity, Straley asked back:
"Why, do you think he's not already there, if not beyond that point already, in terms of popularity?"
Strong words from Straley. While I wouldn't go so far as to say Drake is more popular than one of gaming's most recognizable icon, I do believe he is on his way to becoming a mascot for Sony's Playstation 3. What is so appealing about Nate Drake, I mean aside from his good looks and top notch vocal performance by actor Nolan North. One word, charisma.
"I think people like him because he's compelling, and a much needed breath of fresh air in an industry that's been a bit stale for a while, in terms of characters.We've created something new with him by infusing him with traits more associated with a good movie protagonist than just a video game icon. It's not just us drinking the kool-aid either - according to not an insignificant number of reviews, press, and forums, people have really taken to Nathan Drake's character."
With Uncharted 2 sure to be a hit, and Lara Croft's latest adventure incorporating several elements of Naughty Dog's series, it looks as if this rivalry is beneficial for both teams. I smell a crossover! I'll gladly be the damsel in distress if they need one!

If those two ever had babies they could jump four miles in the air, discover eldarado and be so pretty you it hurt to look upon them.
They'd also have a pretty cool accent.
Probably just a pipe dream, but a XBL co-op game between Lara & Nate sounds like sexy fun!
...More likely reason Nate is popular as Lara is that it is the only ps3-retail title that is awesome/dont suck....
