Netflix & Xbox LIVE Make A Beautiful Couple

gaycouple.jpg

So apparently, Microsoft adding Netflix streaming to its Xbox LIVE service has turned out to be a boon to both companies. Wedbush Morgan Securities analys Michael Pachter estimates that over eight million Xbox LIVE Gold members are "a click of the mouse away from becoming Netflix subscribers." He believes that 800,000 of the Xbox LIVE gamers were already Netflix members, and as many as 200,000 joined Netflix after it was added. Since I suppose it's less likely that Netflix members are going to buy an Xbox 360 to stream movies onto their TV, it's Netflix that is on the receiving end of the majority of this boon.

"...we think that subscriber growth will continue at super-normal levels for quite some time. We believe that the Xbox Live Gold membership is a proverbial gold mine of potential members, and expect to see as many as 1 million join as Netflix members in the next year," Pachter said. "Beyond that, we note that Microsoft is still selling a large number of Xbox 360 units (we estimate that it will sell another 5-6 million in the U.S. in 2009), with conversion of around 35% of these owners to Xbox Live Gold membership."

I was already an Xbox LIVE Gold member, and a member of Netflix, so I can't honestly say whether I would've been tempted to upgrade to Gold or become a Netflix member, but I think I probably would. I mean, it's a terrific service. Sure, not everything you want to see is available for streaming, but there is a surprising amount of content out there, and being able to stream it onto your TV (in HD, sometimes!) instead of your computer monitor is a much easier way to watch. Especially with TV series, where you don't end up hanging onto the disc for three months while you finally get around to watching that last episode. Any of you guys inspired to upgrade your membership or join Netflix when the service started?

I never had a netflix membership and I was never planning on getting one because I could go about a few blocks from where I live and rent a movie for a dollar at a redbox station. As soon as I got the NXE (i have been a gold member since I bought my 360 in 06) I was too excited about netflix streaming that I signed up right away and I'm very happy with it. So I'm one of those 200,000 people.

i've been a netflix member for years, and an xbox owner for as long as they've been out. I refuse to upgrade to live gold just so i can stream movies to my tv. Call me old fashioned but i like to have the disc media in my hands. I hate streaming movies...just my two cents

I became a Netflix subscriber solely because of the streaming to my 360. It's currently hosting a 'The Office' Marathon.

The only reason I got a Netflix account was because the streaming sounded like a neat feature, and I've been 100% pleased ever since.

(Speaking of streaming, check out an awesome French-Canadian coming of age movie callled C.R.A.Z.Y. Hot french speaking guy's coming out/coming of age story)

I was a Netflix member some time ago and I would consider being one again, but to my knowledge, I can't get the streaming feature on my XBOX unless I either have Vista (not likely!) or Windows Media Center (which is at least $100). I'm pretty happy with XP Professional right now.

... Netflix on XBOX would be nice, but at this point, it's not worth it for me.

Disregard my previous statements. I have The Dumb.

I already had both Netflix and a gold Live account, so when NXE came out I was all over it (Yeah, 30 Rock!).

Sadly, Netflix doesn’t stream closed captions so my boyfriend takes that as further proof that my Xbox hates the deaf.

I'm very happy with the marriage of Live and NetFlix. I've gotten into a few new TV shows because of the streaming service. I know some people complain about the selection, but that's why you continue to get discs in the mail :).

I've been a Netflix member since they started, but never had a Live Gold membership (except for occasional free trials). I don't do any online gaming and don't want to pay for Live Gold just to stream Netflix. I recently got a Samsung BD-P2500 which will stream my Netflix flicks instead. I still prefer to actually rent the blu-rays for those movies that are available in the HD format, but streaming is good for those older movies I've watched too many times already or stuff where picture quality isn't an issue (e.g. I tested the Netflix support of the blu-ray player by watching "Totally Baked").

Wow funny, That guy in the picture used for this article is my first roomate when I moved to downtown Seattle, where did this picture come from? I was wondering what hewas up to when i ran into our other roomate the other day. Guess it was modeling.

Oh and I was a live member and Netflix member pre NXE, so I just happily set it up at launch.

My partner and I upgraded our Netflix from the ultra-cheap 1-at-at-time, max-of-2-per-month plan to the cheapest unlimited plan in order to get Netflix "watch instantly" on the 360 (and later our HD TiVo, which is where we now do most of our Netflix streaming). The Netflix streaming video is a great supplement to the discs we continue to get by mail.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
