New Releases For The Week Of 01/19/09

After what seemed like an endless month of less than fabulous releases, this week brings us more than a few gems. The follow-up to the game that dare to take on a giant, Skate 2 combines the realistic challenge of actually skating with a single player story mode that takes gamers through New San Vanelona, a rebuilt city that is no long made for skaters. Even more exciting, you can now choose to play as a female skater, an option not available in the original. The release of Star Ocean: Second Evolution is timed perfectly to get gamers into the series before the new entry hits the 360 in March. I'm currently playing through the remake of the first game on the PSP and look forward to picking up the sequel this week, which I haven't played since it was released on the original Playstation. The PS2's lifeblood seems to be made up of RPG's these days, and Ar tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica is aimed squarely at that subset of gamer who won't let go of the old console (and on behalf of those gamers, I want to thank Sony). Finally, even without a big name endorser behind it, Stoked hopes to be the next gen version of SSX. Until we actually get a new SSX, i'm going to investigate this snowboarder further, fingers crossed.
