Obama's FFC Chairman Elect Keeps It Neutral

I know many of you are awaiting Obama's inauguration next week, for many different reasons; however, there was some good news dropped in our geeky laps this week with one of Obama's recent appointments. Turns out that Obama put in for approval Julius Genachowski as the FCC Chairman. Genachowski worked on Obama's campaign and helped write Obama's Technology and Innovation Plan; moreover, he is a great candidate for the position due to the experience he has in the field from having labored as Senior Legal Advisor to FCC Chair Reed Hundt, working for numerous tech companies, and serving as counsel to numerous broadcasting companies.
The reason this all maters to you, as a gamer, is that Mr. Genachowski seems to be a backer of Net Neutrality and is against media consolidation, both of which are important to each of us as a gaming consumer. Net Neutrality is something that will be a very big topic in the years to come as more and more of the Internet's user base movies to broadband usage and more applications begin to user higher bandwidth technologies. For more info on how Net Neutrality matters to you as a gamer, visit the ECA's advocacy page about it.
I'm glad to see that Obama is continuing to uphold many of the promises that he made in his campaign with his cabinet elections, even if part of me is still a little upset over his invitation to Rick Warren to give his inauguration's invocation. Luckily what happens to the net is far more important to me than who he has praying at some horse and pony show.
