PETA Names Fable 2 Most Animal Friendly For 2008: They Don't Sound Like Raving Loons This Time!
Time for PETA to step up to the plate again. Perpetually welded to whatever media outlet is receiving the most publicity, they have decided to create the most animal friendly game for 2008 award. That's right, they are giving out awards now. I don't think there are prizes involved though. Who won? None other than Fable II:
Fable 2 is a vegetarian's dream come true. Why? In this virtual fight between good and evil, characters powered by tofu are just as powerful as their meat-eating counterparts--and are more fit and attractive to boot.Featuring a strong pro-vegetarian theme, eating a plant-based diet helps you rack up "purity" points, whereas eating meat makes your character fat and evil. A fun and innovative game, it's also an effective tool that teaches gamers the real-life benefits of a vegetarian diet.
The best part is you can be quite an asshat to animals in general. EDGE noted that you can do things like kick chickens and torture small creatures in a great number of ways. Dan Shannon of PETA was not unaware of this:
I'll be honest, it's not our favorite part of the game. But what we like about Fable II and why we gave it the award is because the game presents you with choices, and then you see the repercussions of what those choices are. This is what the awards are based on, and that's what PETA's philosophy is--for people to understand how their choices affect the real world. It's not like people eat meat to score evil points, but you are supporting an industry that is cruel to animals. People need to be aware that their choices affect the world. We like that message in Fable II.
[The Chicken-Kicking] is done in a light-hearted manner. I don't think anyone's going to go out and start kicking chickens in their yard because of this game. Just like real life, you can go kick chickens if you want to, but we don't think most people get off on that.
Wait... Where is the liberation of grocery store lobsters? The paint splashing on fur coats? The overzealous representation of Japanese house mothers? I'm almost convinced that this is some horrible prank and PETA really has nothing to do with this announcement. It sounds do right... reasonable!
PETA Names Fable 2 Most Animal-Friendly Game of 2008 [Game Politics]

Actually you'll find a lot of the media stuff PETA do doesn't involve many real hardcore PETA members, just their naive supporters on the fringes who don't realise they are directly funding the ALF terrorist group.
No sympathy, and it's rather remiss to show these nutcases in a positive, sympathetic light, as they know everyone intelligent loathes them.
PETA scares the piss right out of my eyes. I don't think I can trust videogame advice from the makers of the horrid "trollsen twins" dress up game. We get it, the olsens look like trolls and kill animals, that must be so horrible to your sensitive soy pallets.
"It's not like people eat meat to score evil points, but you are supporting an industry that is cruel to animals."
Awesome. I really don't understand PETA's logic during times like these. They also...really need to tone down things they do sometimes.
I seem to recall blowing a bunny's brains out to get the 'blow a bunny's brains out' achievement.
Animal Crossing?
