Rumorama: PS3 Price Drop In April
If you've been waiting to pick up a PS3 because it still costs more than a down payment on car, then this spring will be music to your ears...maybe. Analyst Michael Pachter is predicting that the PS3's price will drop to just under 300 dollars by April.
"Once the PS3 is at a more affordable price point (we expect a cut to USD 299 in April), we think that sales of that device will once again begin to grow. We expect another cut in price for the Xbox 360, with the feature-laden Pro model likely to come down in price to USD 249 at or before this year's E3 show in June." ~Michael Pachter
Whenever I read these rumors, I get the feeling that these analysts are playing fortune teller. We know a price drop will happen eventually (well maybe not with the Wii), but nobody really knows when. What worries me most is that these drops are not a response to the economic times, but rather a portent of new consoles in the works. I hope I'm wrong, but in the past these reductions have left new announcements in their wake.
Back to the drops, will these lower prices have you running out to pick up a new console, or are there other factors (games for instance) preventing your purchase?

I would've thought that the recession would've slowed down the development and launch of any sort of new generation of consoles and prolonged the lifespan of the current models. I don't expect Microsoft to announce a new generation of console, but most likely rather a new iteration of the 360 in the vein of the PS2 slimline. It's certainly an easy and cheaper way to revitalise the console.
I think all consoles have good momentum, something that a new generation would certainly halt.
