Signs of the Economy: Free Radical For Sale

for sale.jpg

TimeSplitters developer Free Radical has been having an extremely rough time. So rough in fact that they had to lay off around 140 employees, reducing its staff to a group of 40. And to keep even those 40 people employed Free Radical is for sale. Luckily there are some companies interested in snatching up Free Radical and giving them a new home, including Monumental Games, Kuju Entertainment, and Codemasters. Less fortunately is that Free Radical may not be sold as a one package deal. It's possible that parts of the company could be sold to each of the interested parties, but Free Radical is hoping to avoid that so as to preserve as many jobs as they can.

Together with yesterday's news about the closing of EGM, it shows just how strongly the current economic state has hit the industry of our favorite pastime. Our hearts go out to all of the Free Radical employees that have lost their jobs already, and hope that Free Radical is able to find a good new home. Everyone at Free Radical is extremely talented, and so their loss from the industry would be a significant blow.
