Video: Final Fantasy XIII 'Kick Off Trailer'
It may not be coming until the year 2177, but this trailer for Final Fantasy XIII shows just why we're willing to wait that long: awesome Final Fantasy awesomeness, PS3-caliber graphics, and a laundry list of new terms and names.
Some of those new terms and proper names appear here: the gang talks about a "Focus," about the behavior of a "fal'Cie," and fighting agents of "PSICOM" who work for "the Sanctum". We also hear an ominous Big Brother-y voice talk to the "residents of Cocoon" and "going to Pulse." Lastly, after the nameless gang is saved by "Serah," they discover they're "l'Cie now."
Do with that what ye will, FFanboys. Am I the only one who gets a FF7 vibe from this trailer? Maybe it's just the Midgar-esque setting and wishful thinking...

Im sorry but I'm a bit of a skeptic. In my opinion FFX was the last great final fantasy that came out.
Its also a bit hard for me to get over this "Bad-ass-chick-against-the- world" theme.
Id like to take a better look at the battle system, i wasnt quite sure if it reminded me of Kingdom Hearts? or if it was the Classic battle system on steroids or something.
im sure ill get it anyway.
FF11 made me lose faith in Square and no game to date has restored it. This won't either.
This game looks amazing. I couldn't get into FFXII, because of the battle system and the way too open ended character progression, so I would like to know more about how FFXIII plays.
hasn't this already been posted?
though the last one linked to the official website, rather than embedding the trailer.
SNOWWWWW *swoons* and Vanille is sooo cute!! i hope she's the summoner/white mage of the group
The fight scenes on the bridge remind me of the first boss fight in FFVII
Shades of FF7? I don't think you're imagining things. Regarding the main character, "Lightning":
"Character designer Tetsuya Nomura describes her as 'not very feminine', and says that he was asked to create a 'female version of Cloud' when designing her."
Regardless of her origins, she has my little dyke heart all aflutter.
*Fan girl scream* I'm excited. And am keeping my hopes up and an open mind about this game.
Feels like a hybrid of VII and X, methinks. Technology vs. religion w/pop culture flavoring is pure X, and the battles shown are highly reminiscent of Tidus fighting Sin Spawn along the highways of Zanarkand. I liked X, but I'm amazed they're not breaking new ground with this. Square Enix: The Stagnation Continues. :-(
I'll be glad as long as it's NOTHING like FF12, which is the worst Final Fantasy game to date (possibly with the exclusion of X-2).
Being the first Final Fantasy (again excluding X-2) with a real female main character has me rather excited! :D
Wow, some of you guys are set on hating this game, no matter what the final product might be. :(
I just can't understand such prejudice.
ughh, omg you guys need to give this game a chance. FFXII was awesome and the only reason why people didn't like it was because it wouldn't let people be lazy with the gameplay. I see a hint of XII in the gameplay as far as the fighting goes and definately some of X in the charcters and setting.
I'm with Sami on this one.
