Videos: DC Universe Online Developer Walkthrough

Straight out of CES we've got a few videos of the upcoming DC Universe Online, the upcoming PC and PS3 MMO from Sony Online Entertainment. The video above introduces how one might put together a character, and shows off how "cases" will work in the game. Below are two more videos, one showing off more of the gameplay and the other demonstrating what it's like to fight beside Superman in the game as well as a little of the environment.

The game looks all right, but I'm hoping that the powers have a little more variety than shooting beams or punching really hard. What about the ability to stretch kind of far, whine about stuff, or bounce? That's what's going to get my subscription.

I assume they needed permission to rip of CoH THAT much right?

I don't think they ripped it off too much. There is a lot of stuff that is very different from what I saw. Plus CoH sucked and this looks way cool.

This is without a doubt CoH2. So far I've seen almost nothing other than an engine upgrade to distinguish it from CoH which I played for 3 years.

So You can't play as batman or any other dc universe character but you can create special superheroes with personally designed appearances and abilities... How is this not CoH. The major addition is the addition of DC character cameos... Original... Whatever it's a rip off, but it still looks interesting and it would be neat to battle beside the green lantern.

Hmm after watching the other videos this dosn't seem like SoE have learned anything. Letting you switch between "stances" (like the WoW warrior) is fine but I got the impression that if I was to pick this up I wont need any body else.

I can just DPS away, things get rough swap to healing and then go defensive. Thats the impression I got anyway.

Needing other people to do certain stuff is always what makes it feel like teamwork not just "everybody is everything", that just sounds boring.

Just curious as to how online play would work on PS3. Would you have to pay a subscription fee and would this be the first game on the PS3 to have a "pay-to-play" multiplayer experience?

no. there's been other "pay-to-play" multiplayer on consoles before.

Final Fantasy 11 was on the ps2. You'd play along side PC users.

It was interesting as at the time I played a rift was beginning to be created between pc and ps2 users. Because ps2 users didn't have a keyboard and hence were slow to react to situations.

Don't know how it all resolved itself , I left shortly after that.

and yes, it's definitely like CoH. but I think the difference here is the theme. You get to play along side known heroes and villains AND newer technology like improved graphics.

I can't wait to try it out :D

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
