Could Your Xbox LIVE Account Expire?

So it seems that some gamers are having some trouble with their Xbox LIVE accounts expiring, forcing them to start over with a new Gamertag and resetting their achievements to zero. Jinkies! It sounds bad, but the problem is caused by allowing the E-mail account that you used to set up your Xbox LIVE Gold membership to expire. I've never experienced this, but apparently, E-mail accounts can expire after a period of inactivity, accounts like Hotmail ones, it seems. Guess it's good I never set up a Hotmail account!
A Microsoft customer services representative has confirmed the issue, admitting that the only solution is to set up a new Gamertag with another E-mail address. One you'd use more frequently, I guess. Losing the achievement points would suck, but it seems like this problem wouldn't affect too many gamers. I mean, I make sure I check my E-mail all the time. Even the account I set up specifically for online purchases and assorted sign-ups to collect all the spam. But just wanted to warn you guys that this could happen to you if you're not careful. Forewarned is forearmed! (Though why you'd want four arms is beyond me...)
Xbox Live Accounts Hit By Email Expiry Blunder [GamesIndustry.biz]

THis is very true and it happened to me! I stopped paying for live, tried to renew it after a year w/o the gold membership and they wouldn't let me reactivate it. I lost all my game saves and achievements and to add insult to injury i had to wait on hold for hours for them to try to figure out why I couldn't retrieve my gamertag. BEWARE!!!!
don't they kinda force you into using a hotmail account with your 360?
