The Name's Enix... Square Enix

Okay, somehow I must have been living under a rock or something, because I don't remember hearing the news that Square Enix had made a deal with Ubisoft to distribute their Western-style videogames in the East. And now, in addition to Ubisoft, Square Enix has just made another deal with Activision to distribute Quantum of Solace in Japan. The latest Bond film hit theaters in Japan last month, and the game will see a simultaneous launch on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PS2 and Wii on March 26.
I find this fascinating. The article on Edge Online says that this is part of Square Enix's "continuing efforts ot expand its presence westward," and while I have no doubt about that, I also feel like it's a good way to get some Western-skewing games into Japan. I'm sure there are a bunch of games that normally wouldn't get a second look from Japanese gamers that will now simply because of a Squeenix logo on the box. Hey, whatever works!
