Georgia City Councilman Under Fire
I expect politicians to be disparaging of the gays. There isn't a universal social stigma that it's wrong just yet, this is especially true in rural areas. The same cannot be said about racism. I find it out right flabbergasting that in this modern day and age someone could be do something openly, and blatantly racist, especially a politician.
Kennesaw, Georgia city councilman John Dowdy is currently in the midst of a major scandal, mostly involving him emailing people an anti-immigrant game titled "Border Patrol". Players are invited to shoot Mexican immigrants attempting to cross over into the United States.
The email in question was circulated with the following message attached:
Dowdy sent an email to Human Resources Director... linking the recipient to a racially violent video game called "Border Patrol" in which the game player would "shoot" different cartoon characters that were stereotypes of Mexicans, including "Mexican National," "Drug Smuggler," and "Breeder," a cartoon of a pregnant Mexican woman holding hands with children . Points were assigned for shooting and killing each of these characters .Dowdy forwarded this game to [three Kennesaw employees] among other people, along with a message which read, "THIS IS WAY TOO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!!!!!! Makes you feel better anyway, I did my part today, I kept a few from coming over!!! GET READY --- THEY ARE FAAAST! ! !"
Just... wow. The councilman in question has since Resigned, and is now facing a lawsuit.

I'll give that it wasn't appropriate for him to send that to coworkers, but to sue him over it? That's kind of a stretch I think.

I've shot countless black people in Resident Evil 5 the last few days and discussed the game with my housemate who also owns it.... someone gonna sue me? :S
Its ridiculous.
I'm no longer surprised by this. There's still racism everywhere, and I've learned that it's still quite blatant in a lot of places. I think it's just getting reported on more because of instant communications technologies like the internet, and because Obama's historic win has put the spotlight on it.
I hope they sue his pants off.

Why is it a crime to be racist? I don't understand this ever. Its the same with people being homophobic I just let it roll off. People are homophobic and racist they are entitled to be how they want (as long as they don't actually HARM anybody) the same we are gay.
I'm not claiming that being Racist or Homophobic is a fantastical thing I just don't get why you can get sued over it.

What non-Georgians may not realize is what a pocket of seriously retarded throwbacks Kennesaw is. It's the major city in Cobb County, ground zero for all the "evolution is just a theory" drama you hear about on the news. It's also a city where every homeowner is required by law to own a firearm. This "border patrol" crap isn't at all out of character for the area.
Honestly, the rest of the state sometimes wishes Cobb would find a more appropriate place to exist. Maybe Mississippi... in the 1800s.
