Capcom Wants Your Blood!

If you're in the vicinity of Hollywood in sunny California on Friday, March 13, you can help Capcom celebrate the launch of Resident Evil 5 in a very, very unique way. Capcom has partnered with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the World of Wonder gallery at 6650 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles, CA, from 11 am to 5 pm. In addition to doing a good deed by donating some of your precious plasma, gamers will be able to pick up exclusive RE5 Blood Drive collectibles (posters, bumper stickers, buttons, etc.), win copies of the game, and enter a raffle for one of several of those sexy red Xbox 360 Resident Evil limited edition consoles! You'll also be able to try out the game at kiosks before heading on to the store to buy your own copy!
Drop-ins are welcome, but they'd appreciate you guys signing up ahead of time, so to do that, or for further information, head on over to the website.

Unless something changed recently, the Red Cross does not allow gay, bisexual, and transgender men donate blood. It is an ugly and discriminatory practice.
The only way to get around it is to lie on the little form they give you to fill out but they can take legal action against you if they find out.

I think this is a very cool idea for a launch of a game, even though we're not allowed to donate blood :(
...I was about to bring up the same point that Darryl did.
If I could, I would totally do it though.
And that "sketch" of Chris is still fucking hilarious.
I say we protest the blood drive, hold up signs, "LET US DONATE!"
How can they get mad at us? We want to donate, but we're not allowed... Protesting to participate.

Ditto, ditto, and ditto. Really kind of a bummer actually.
Before you protest the Red Cross, read the article SoFreshSoDarryl listed himself. Dude, did you even read it before you posted? They CAN'T because the FDA said so, not because the Red Cross said so.
The Food and Drug Administration reiterated its long-standing policy on its Web site Wednesday, more than a year after the Red Cross and two other blood groups criticized the policy as “medically and scientifically unwarranted.”
So don't protest the Red Cross, they want you all to donate. They're just banned from taking your blood thanks to the FDA.
I WISH California was anywhere close to sunny! It's been raining here in Hollywood for the last few days. Yuck.
The FDA, aren't they the group that said Thalidomide was fine to give to pregnant women?.
Useless bunch of prats, don't they screen the blood as well irrespective of where it's come from?
I see no problem, the same applies here in the UK as well, to similar disenfranchisement.
i clicked on Darryl's link and 'voted' at the time i voted 45% said they agreed with the ban....sad
if you are a virgin, then the answer would be yes.
Just FYI, you guys, I was aware when I posted the story about the discrimination. I just thought that it was a clever promotion, and I wanted to bring it some attention. Even though most of our readers wouldn't be able to honestly donate. Personally, I stopped giving blood after the first time I tried in high school and I passed out! But I know not all of our readers are gay, so I thought maybe a few people might actually donate after reading the article. And even those few could help someone.
Yeah, I'm actually kind of offended. To me it just sounds like a lazy effort for the people who handle the blood to test it before hand for infections before a patient transfusion.
everyone is at risk of infection... Kind of ironic that we can't donate because of risk of infection and this is dealing with Resident Evil.
Hey, I just got refused for the second time at Biolife after trying at Red Cross about two years ago. I have had a couple of awkward sexual experiences in my life but there were no STDs involved and absolutely nothing as risky as full-out intercourse, protected or not. Is it wise to lie about doing those small things those small number of times at the third company I try to donate blood to? I really would appreciate the helpful advice. Thank you.
As some people already mentioned.
If you have to donate blood to be able to recieve to collectibles
That means gays cannot get the collectibles
GO ANYWAY if you're interested. I would expect there to be a Capcom representative there. Mention that by law you are excluded from participation and point out the discrimination.
.... they may give you the collectibles even though you didn't participate... just so Capcom aren't seen as supporting the discrimination.
and if you DON'T go to the event.... WRITE/EMAIL Capcom .... I bet they'll mail you the collectibles.
Not for Resident Evil things, but donating in general: Is it a good idea to lie about my past when I *know* that I jhave not done anything particularly dangerous by normal standards of living?
That's up to your own moral and ethical standards. Personally, I don't feel like I should compromise my religion/philosophy to lie in order to help someone. I'm a buddhist, and one of the core beliefs is honesty.
I don't think it's quite fair to have to choose between my religion and helping someone in need. I know plenty of people who lie and give blood.
Alright then. I will donate somewhere, sometime in the future, assuming I remain just as clean as I am now. Still, what a bummer it is not being able to bring in a meager, supplemental income with plasma donations. I really need the money for college.
