GDC 09: Final Fantasy Comes To WiiWare & VC

ffiv05.jpg

In addition to some very much anticipated upgrades to the Wii firmware, and a little Zelda news, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata also announced some Square Enix love for the Wii.

Specifically, some Final Fantasy love for both the Virtual Console and WiiWare.

Not only will WiiWare see WiiWare: My Life as a Darklord, sequel to the similarly named title My Life as a king, but also Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, sequel to - you guessed it - FFIV.

And in May (in Japan) the Virtual Console will begin offering the first original Final Fantasy games. According to Iwata, those FF games that were released in the states will come to our VCs as well - no word on those FF titles that didn't see an original U.S. release, but more details will be forthcoming.

Definitely looking forward to the FFIV sequel (just finished FFIV on the DS today, awesome game) - but wasn't there rumor of it coming to Xbox Live Arcade as well? I'd prefer it on Xbox 360.
