Sony And NBC Team Up

NBC Presentation.jpg

So Sony has just signed a content deal with NBC Universal that will make their TV programs and films available to buy or rent through the PlayStation Network. In the United States, at least. With this addition, Sony boasts that their video service features more than 1,300 movies and 4,500 TV episodes. This will include films like Milk and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, as well as hit NBC series like The Office and Heroes.

I guess that's a good move by Sony, since it brings them just a little bit closer to the content offered already on the Xbox 360. Those shows and films have been available on Xbox LIVE for a while now... In fact, according to a recent press release, Microsoft has more than 17,000 movies, TV shows and music videos. And that's not even including the thousands and thousands of title you can stream over Netflix!

But before you guys jump all over me in the comments for having an anti-Sony bias, I don't actually buy or rent movies by downloading them onto my Xbox. Although I will use the Netflix streaming service as an extra bonus to my regular Netflix disc rentals. I just don't see the point of paying extra to download something I can get from Netflix as part of what I'm already paying every month. So honestly, I could care less about who has the most content available for download.

Personally, I would never buy anything from the 'video' section of the PSN, because it doesn't fall into the same "unlimited downloads for use on up to 5 PS3s" deal as the content from the 'game' section.

Renting is another story; I would have no qualms with renting movies from the PSN, if I were into that sort of thing.
